Re: 2nd day with braces and having 2nd thoughts
It gets better.. those molar buildups do grind down as well. You get used to it and everything goes back to normal! It took me more than a few days to get used to 'em, but once you do.. you're fine! The one thing I did notice that I did more with those is clenching. It was a bit annoying, but I find I do that more with braces in general...

Hello Zenbuf,
Just wanted to respond to your posting about the molar buildups. I just got my braces last Thursday. I knew ahead of time that I would be getting those awful molar buildups and I was filled with panic and dread about them, mostly because when my orthodontist told me he was putting them in, I forgot to ask him how long I'd have to have them. I subsequently sent an email to the office and received a reply which said that I'd need them for anywhere from six months to the duration of treatment.
Well, it's now been even less than a week since I got my braces. Despite all my worry, the molar buildups have not been bad. I have some problems chewing but I can still manage it pretty well. I have adjusted remarkably well to my braces, I think. You will, too. Hang in there and try to give them at least a month before you reconsider your decision. I have a very large space between my two front teeth (which is why I got braces to begin with). After just TWO days, I could see that the space was starting to close. I was extremely surprised by that but everything I've read on this forum says that changes become apparent very quickly after you get them put on. This forum is full of very supportive and encouraging people. I am so grateful that I found it. Keep us posted on how you're doing!

I will have my braces on a week tomorrow,I am 22 and I was the same as you all weekend, on Saturday I just wanted these things off, but from Sunday, began to feel better, Just wait and sure you will feel same, I was so nervous with eating anything with them, scared I break something, I have that cement too, and i understand how you feel, but everyday you get more used to it, and I think my mouth is kind of adJusting to them.I want so much Just to stick it out with these, because everyone has told me soon I will, be totally used to them, .

Thanks again for all the support! It has helped tremendously and it does get better a little every day.
I might just make it after all (if I was Mary Tyler Moore, I could throw my hat in the air about now)

No day but today...

Hi Xenbuf,
Everyone on this forum has been where you are right now and we've all come through it. I think the first week or so is the worst. It really will get better. Give yourself some TLC, have a nice glass of wine and try to relax.

The discomfort is worth it in the end.
