Congrats Vicky! Must be the best feeling ever! You must post pics of your pearly whites once they're done :)
The thing that I'm waiting for the most is learning how to smile again. Since I was about 7-8 yrs old I've been smiling with my mouth closed, extremely conscious about my teeth. I got married last summer and in every single wedding photo I'm sort of half smiling, just so that I don't show my teeth. That's sad. Once the treatment's over I'm gonna be all smiles 24/7, in and out of photos, just for the heck of it

Ok Vicky that's not too bad.

Has anyone on here just had the bonded wire fitted as a retainer and used no other method? Did your teeth stay straight with wire? I'm really panicking as I have the wire and also the clear plastic retainer but my dog has just chewed it and I'm worried that by the time I get a replacement after Xmas & new year, my teeth will have started to move back :-( Or will they stay in place with the wire only?

Hi Susiesue, was it you who had to put the lingual assembly thingie back in yourself? Mine just came off today and I tried my best to put it back the same way but I'm not sure if I did it right. My ortho is on xmas vacation til January so I can't ask him. The IA feels the same as before when in place. I REALLY hope I managed to fix it, I wont see my ortho until January 9th! :-+ Any tips?

Hi, I got my IA today, and am wondering what I've got myself into. I don't seem to be able to keep it in my mouth without gagging really badly to the point where I have to take it straight out. The appliance just seems to go too far back in the roof of my mouth?? I haven't been able to keep it in for more than a couple of minutes and just feel like crying! Has anyone else found this at the beginning, because at the moment, I don't know what to do and could really use some advice/encouragement!

CJP1980, I had the same problem the first day I had my IA. I didn't actually gag, but came very close to it. Felt really unpleasant the whole evening. I decided to just stick to it and not take it out. And by the end of the evening the feeling was gone. So no tricks here, sorry :( your mouth will get used to it but unfortunately it takes time! Good luck!

Merrrry Christmas everyone!
My dear IA just gave me quite a fright, the lingual assembly came off again and the springs just popped out. Both of them ended up on the floor and it took me 10 minutes to find them. Was getting a bit frustrated there. Anyone else having problems with the lingual assembly bit coming off?? Anything I can do except be extra careful with it?

Hi Jasmin, apologies I've only just had a look and seen your message a few days ago. Yes it was me who had the same problem on day 2, the spring pinged out and was dangling down the plug hole in my basin. I can remember quite clearly how I felt  I'd just got through day 1/night 1 which is rather testing isn't it and I couldn't see my dentist for a few days. I felt like I'd wasted a very long day and night if I couldn't then wear it for a few days. It was lucky I saw the spring in the basin as they are so tiny - i'm not surprised it took you ten minutes to find yours. As I couldn't get hold of my dentist a did a quick google and also looked at the leaflet I'd received with my IA. Once I realised it was quite straight forward to put back together I was relieved, although I was worried if I'd put it back the right way. If it feels the same I'm sure you've put it back correctly, it looks like there can only be one of two ways it could go back in! When I saw the dentist he confirmed I'd put it back correctly and he advised me to hold onto tightly it as you take it out and when cleaning hold on to the end with two 'bows' so that the springs don't ping out. It hasn't happened to me again.

CJP1980, I didn't have problems with gagging but can see how one could. I'm sure I read someone else experiencing gagging on here. I hope with time it gets better for you once your mouth gets used to it. Its so hard isn't it as it does your head in!

I didn't get to see my dentist before Christmas as he came down with Flu unfortunately. My next appointment will be next week which is four weeks from the last one, which is fine. I am now on week 13 and its going so well. So nearly there. I'm really hoping the next step will be the clear aligner for the last bit of refinement.

For anyone who's just starting out, hang in there, it really is amazing what the IA will do. You do get used to it and the results are fantastic.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

The last couple of days my back spring keeps clipping off my composite fillings, i dont know why :(
Has anyone got any idea why this keeps happening? Its not becuase my IA is loose as my ortho has really tightened it up at my last visit.

Hi 88oscar, could it be that your filling(s) have chipped / eroded? Mine has definitely become smaller (the one behind the teeth) and it's harder to keep the back spring in its place.

It's been about 2.5 weeks now and I'm beginning to see some progress, yay!

Susie thanks for giving me peace of mind, now I can wait til my next appointment without worries :)

Yeah thats what i thought may have happened but when i asked my ortho he said it was because your teeth have moved to there final position. Which is good as im happy with their final position :)
Im going to be on to 3 clear aligners for a final touch of movement, does your 3rd clear aligner act as your final retainer? Or do you have to take another impression after the clears for your retainer?
I forgot to ask my ortho.

Had my second consultation this morning, and have decided to take the plunge. Impressions are being taken in the morning and composite veners removed. I am only getting the top teeth straightened, It should be fitted in 3 weeks so I will keep you posted....nervous now!

Hey well done Inmanthedan, you wont regret it!

I visited my ortho this morning. Today starts week 16 for me and I am delighted to say thats me done with the IA :-* The last turn of the key was made on week 14. The IA has now done all it can and I just need a little adjustment with the help of clear aligners. A mould was taken of my top teeth and now I need to wait until the clear aligner arrives in 1-2weeks time. As soon as I get the call its arrived I will be round there in a flash. The only bummer is that I still need to wear the IA until it arrives but I can live with that. My ortho says that after the IA I will find the clear aligner a complete doddle. I am SO happy. He also filed off the front tooth which was protruding so that it lines up with my other front tooth, which looks fantastic.

I hope everyone else's journeys are going well.
