If you look on youtube, many surgery candidates not only has an underbite but a very noticeable overgrowth of the lower jaw (which results in the underbite), so moving an overgrown lower jaw to fix the underbite still doesn't really solve the profile issue I guess. Do you have a blog/post of your progress? I would be interested
I also had a underbite, more like an edge to edge bite. One orthodontist told me I needed the surgery, and the orthodontist I currently go to said I only needed braces. I'm halfway through treatment and my underbite is gone from only the braces. I don't have any pictures posted on here though.
Wow they sure had some significant improvement there!
I'm currently in treatment for an underbite and so far the rapid palatal expander is working wonders! My top molars have moved out more than 7mm! I hope this gives hope to those who don't want surgery.

Is the expander only moving the teeth and making space (to avoid extractions) or its widening your upper jaw? (I read that in your blog the upper jaw was under developed)
I'm currently 21 years old and so my jaw bone has already fused together. What the expander is essentially doing is pushing my top molars outward. By doing so, it allows for the appropriate space needed to move my other teeth forward (using braces) so that they can be nicely aligned. Elastics will then be used to pull my upper jaw forward. Hope that helps!
After my braces come off the orthodontist is going to place a permanent retainer onto (and behind) my first four top teeth. In terms of the other teeth (molars) I will have to wear a retainer for the rest of my life. Of course not all the time -- everyday except for when eating for 6 months and then after that only at night. Hope that helps.
Sorry for the late reply. I would like to post my success story so far. I had a complete underbite (lower teeth covered my upper when biting together) but I was also able to strain my jaw to reach an edge to edge bite. After a few months, this underbite transformed into an edge to edge bite, after which my ortho placed me on elastics. Only after a month, the elastics was able to change my bite to an overbite. I assume that my underbite was mainly dental in nature (upper angled inwards and lower angled outwards) but I hope there wasn't any skeletal changes that resulted from the poor bite (elongation of the jaw).
So for those people out there who may think this is impossible, it isn't!
