Wildsmile Braces: Too "Kiddie" For An Adult?

Ok, so I'm feeling both excited and nervous about my soon-to-come hardware (and I'm 23), but I know I don't wish to hide my braces with the ceramics/lingual, and I certainly don't wish to use Damons because I'd like to feel like jazzing up my metal smile with some colored ligs every now and then.

Earlier today on ArchWired.com while reading about the different styles of brackets, I read about Wildsmiles and this caugh my interest. Wildsmiles (for anyone that hasn't heard of them) are metal brackets that come in different shapes such as stars, hearts, flowers, footballs, soccer balls, and even one called "super diamond". Reading about these cute brackets and going to their website (http://wildsmiles4you.com/home/), I developed an almost immediate love with the heart and star-shaped brackets!

Now, I have an upcoming appointment with my orthodontist this Wednesday to discuss what my treatment will entail (now that we know my braces will be fully covered by my insurance) and I think I'd like to bring up the possibility of getting these brackets put on instead of the traditional.

But will it be too "childish" for a young woman of 23 to walk around flashing heart or star brackets?

Is THAT what those things are called? I found a coupon from my orthodontist in one of those coupon books, offering a discount on orthodontic services, and he has pics of those brackets in the ad, so I'm assuming he offers those, too. As a joke, I was going to bring in the coupon at my next visit and tell him I wanted my brackets changed to those! (Being that I'm over 2 years into the braces process, I wanted to see the look on his face.)

I think you should choose whatever you want, and if you think having those would make your experience more fun, then GO FOR IT!! I think that once you get them in, and start getting wires, elastics, and other lovely pieces of equipment attached to them, you may barely even be able to tell what shape the brackets are. I checked out the website, and see they're only available for the upper six teeth (also called the "social six", since those are the ones that mostly show when you smile). I think they look adorable.

DO IT! I'd love to see what they look like on an actual person.

Catgyrl: Thanks for the input and honestly, I didn't see the part where they were only for the front six teeth the first time I was on the site so thanks for pointing that out. Maybe I just might go with them if my orthodontist has no problem with me wanting them come Wednesday. Still can't choose between stars or hearts though >.<

I had to dig deep on that website to find out that information. But it makes sense, since the molars usually end up having hooks attached to them for elastics, and they probably want a certain kind of brackets on those teeth. But if you think about it, unless you walk around with a "cheesy grin", most people won't see the molars, anyway. I think they're so cute and shiny-looking! There's a place on there where you can see if your orthodontist carries those brackets. I inputted my ortho's information and his name popped up. But since you're going on Wednesday, you can just ask him.

Just checked and it seems no orthodontist within DC city lines readily carries these brackets but according to the website, all you have to do is ask your ortho to place an order and they can be delivered to the office in time for the fitting. So I'll bring this up with him Wednesday because now they've made me all the more eager for them! *Does a little jig of joy about her room*

Just came from my appointment. While I will be getting a full set of metal braces (yay), my ortho said "no" to my request for Wildsmiles (I wanted the heart brackets) because he would have to order multiples to have on hand in the event I damaged a bracket. Basically he felt it would be a hassle to go through that for one patient. *Pouts*

Awww... too bad. But I can understand his point. Brackets do pop off now and then, and he must not get many requests for the Wildsmile brackets, or else he'd carry them himself. But I'm glad you're so stoked about getting your braces! I was super excited about mine, too... 2 years ago. Now I can't wait for them to come off!
