Got my braces on beginning of Feb, and my next appt was scheduled 8 weeks out. Anyone know why some people go every 4 weeks and some go every 8 weeks? Does that mean they think your teeth will take longer to move during that initial time period?

Do you have self-ligating braces? If so, that is fairly typical since the braces are doing their initial work and you don't need to change ligs. I have this type myself.

From what I've read, most people with the ligs usually go more frequently.

I actually do not have the self-ligating braces. I have radiance brackets, which require elastic ligs....but I also live 2 hours away from my ortho, so I'm wondering if they are just trying to help me out by not having me drive so much.

Also, is it true they can't really do much (in terms of new arch wires, etc) until your original archwire has completely straightened out? They put 2 different bent areas in the wire across my front teeth, and the kinks in the wire are still there. I'm wondering if those kinks have to be completely gone before they replace my wire with a thicker wire...? Anyone know?

I haven't gotten mine yet but I'm hoping for no more that every 6 weeks. My ortho will be 2 hours away from me (the ortho my tmj dentist works with) so hoping to make less frequent trips. I've been doing the 2 hour drive every 1-2 weeks for 4 months to treat the tmj.

I started with 10 weeks, then 6 weeks, now every four weeks to have my powerchains replaced. Mine is self-ligating.

I haven't had my first adjustment yet but it is scheduled for 8 weeks out from my brace date. Since I have so many gaps to close I am assuming I will be in powerchains soon and as the spaces close the wire will get very pokey, so I imagine I will have a few "emergency" visits in there.

I still haven't been for my first adjustment. Got them on mid-April and don't go back until July 1.
