Hi Kip,

Well mine is "brace" because it is only on my upper arch; it would be braces if I had them both top and bottom. But I suppose the fixed brace on my teeth comprises several brackets plus the wire ( and occasionally other bits) so I suppose I could call it "braces".

Of the people who have commented to me, some have said " you have got a brace" and others have said " you have got braces" ( all in an English accent of course)

Jem
Sectional brace with Damon clear brackets fitted to front 6 upper teeth 3 January 2012
Brackets added to premolars 2 April 2012
Estimated treatment time originally 6-9 months
. Brace removed on 22 July 2013 after 18 months and 19 days
Now enjoying bonded upper retainer plus part time essix/hawley( I have both)

I'm going to apologize to Peter for my weirdness causing a thread jack. I must be absorbing nickel tonight!

Since in the UK, if you get sick you are "in hospital", then now you should be "in brace", eh?

Wow, Peter! I see good movement there! Good luck in your tightening :) Keep us updated!

About the accents I also imagine them in my mind while I am reading, haha! You can read me with an irish-spanish accent! Can you imagine how it sounds? Haha

Good luck with your treatment - I'm also shaking my fist at my orthodontist as a teen who didn't stress the importance of wearing my retainer for enough time. I'm sure I wore it for the recommended time, but that wasn't long enough it seems!

I can't see the pics yet as I'm a newbie but looking forward to seeing your progress with the fastbraces.

Wow that's a tough accent to imagine. I can do each one individually, but together, not so easy. I have to use a South American Spanish accent, because I have a Venezuelan friend.

It's almost as bad as my French physics professor who learned English in French Canada and had a hearing problem with a speech impediment. That one was unusual.

Hi all,

No worries for the thread jacking! lol. It's great to hear from you all, regardless of whether the conversation is about braces, or accents, or anything else. BTW, I just attempted an Irish/Spanish accent. The best I could come up with was saying 'potato' in a Spanish accent, or 'paella' in an Irish accent. I failed miserably on both occasions. But found it funny none-the-less! :)

So...I was "tightened" up yesterday! Ortho was really pleased with my progress. When asked whether I wanted groovy colours this time, I panicked, and opted for.......clear ligs again! Booooo! As we all know, they won't remain "clear" for very long. Especially given my fondness for Indian food (now trying an Indian/French accent in my head, lol).

There is one tooth in the middle of my bottom arch that, up until now, has managed to avoid all the fun. This is due to it's position making it too difficult for the ortho to get the lig all the way around the bracket. So, up until now, it has only been partially connected to the wire. However, yesterday, the ortho was able to get the lig all the way round it. And boy is the tooth now trying to make up for lost time. Ouchy! I swear it moved a good couple of mm over night! Nice to see them all beginning to line up though.

So - here's my question. As a adult bloke, who doesn't really want to make a public fuss about having braces, what colour ligs should I go for next time I'm in the chair? Clear and grey are clearly very boring, but less conspicuous. Perhaps it's time to liven things up a bit? But no pinks, thank you!

Until next time, "cheerio" (for the Yanks and Aussies)!

:)

I had my first adjustment today and got baby pink ones, but after all, I am a female lol ;) you can see them on my thread below :)

But yes, I really like the look of the dark blue ones on guys, I know they stand out a bit, but I like them OR you could try the baby blue ones for a less out there look?

apart from blue, i am not sure! maybe Red? I think they could look good too :) I reckon give the colours a go, why not! hehe

catchya latah allagatah! lol. (catch ya later alligator) :P

Thankfully, no pain during the adjustment - despite the ortho being quite heavy handed at times! :-= I could imagine it really hurting if my teeth were going through one of their sensitive phases (which come and go quite randomly I find)!

I think you're on the money with blue ligs (for me anyway). I Google Imaged "blue ligs", and after confirming that I did mean "blue ligs" and not "blue legs" (weird), I was presented with some nice pictures of how they could look. Admittedly, the ceramic braces with blue ligs look much nicer than the full-on, in your face (or rather my face) metal looking braces that I have. But blue would probably still be an improvement. And a talking point. Although perhaps red would be a better option to show my allegiance for my football team. Decisions decisions! Anyway, your pink ones look great! And fantastically coordinated with your lipstick (good job)!

In a while crocodile! :)

If your going for less is more, I'd go with grey or blue they stain the least.
You could also ask your orthodontist about quick ligs - I've had these for ages now they're little metal twists instead of elastics.

More metal but no staining and at least all the same colour.

As for life with braces I'm 26 female, and I'm sure I get more attention now than I did before think Katy perry may have helped with that one ;)

Hmmmm, I'm not sure I like the sound of quick ligs! There's already enough metal in my mouth to get airport security guards excited when I go through the metal detector. And twisted wires on the outside of my teeth??? Surely this is just asking for ulcer hell!

But hey, what do I know? I'm still new at this.

How about alternate blue and smoke ligs?

I was going to say blue, the Mediterranean blue. Those look awesome. Alternating blue and gray would look good too.

I also saw someone with one color on one top half and the other color on the other top half, and then the opposite configuration on the bottom, instead of alternating on every other tooth.

I have clear brackets and am not fussed on coloured ligs on them  I think they look better on metals!

Smoke ligs don't stain a lot, but given you've got metal, silver always look nice (my daughter has stuck with silver for the last 5 months, it's her favourite which I find a little funny because most kids want the craziest colours they have).

I do like the blue though. I like red too. We have a maroon glittery sort of red.

I also like forest green but I'm terrified it might just look like spinach

Glad your first adjustment went well!

Hi there :)

Sorry to jump in, but I'm so happy to see someone else going through fastbraces treatment!
It's really hard to find any information about them, I guess they're pretty new to the UK...
I have overcrowded teeth and I just got mine fitted this morning and they dont look as bad as I expected them to :D
The filing part was probably the most uncomfortable bit, pain isnt too bad at the moment, and I have to go back in 2 weeks to see how things are doing. Hope your treatment is going well (:

Quick questions: Do you get to choose ligs with fastbraces? Mine are metal bracket with what looks like clear ligs, I wasn't offered a choice, they just got put on!
