#1 Post by newzealandqt »

I was quoted 18 months i have heard that braces only move it during some of the treatmeant the rest is to set. So should I expect it to be near straight in 6 months or how much movement should i expect in 3 or 4 months.

Hi nzqt :).

Welcome!

I'm from chch! Where are you?

Movement time varies from person to person and ortho plan to ortho plan.... I've been braced for a couple of months and my teeth are almost straight and in nice arch... May change though once the molar bands go on and they start closing the molar gaps I have from extractions.... others take a while longer.. It all varies so much :)

Teeth move in different stages. Most noticeable is the time after each adjustment. At first your teeth have a lot of moving to do, and then finer adjustments near the end.
Also, I think after a month or so you stop checking on them every 5 minutes to see if they have moved
I had 4 teeth extracted and therefore it has meant my teeth have space to move about so they have moved relatively quickly I think!

Best wishes - QT and surrounding areas have some top orthos if that is where you are getting them done.

Leebie3 - I too will be getting molar bands on in coming months - let me know how you go with this!

Well, most movement between appointments happens right after your adjustment if you are receiving wires and ligature changes. Elastics move constantly. Hauling your teeth into a nice round archform happens at the beginning if it needs doing and happens pretty quickly. Rotating teeth or tilting them inwards or outwards or intruding/extruding them is slower. The braces come off soon after the last changes are made; you are then in retention for years or your lifetime.
