Finally doing this (I hope)

Re: Finally doing this (I hope)
The consultation could not have gone better. Everyone at the office was sooo nice and I got probably about 30 minutes one-on-one with the ortho to talk treatment plans and ask questions, so that was a good start to this ortho/patient relationship.
Brace date is Thursday morning so I'm only naked for another 36 hours (I can't believe how fast this is moving... probably for the best... I can't back out). I'm getting Damons (upper clear, lower metal), no molar bands or any other appliances, 15-18 month sentence.
I'm excited/terrified, but glad to be starting the journey
I'm 55, too and have had braces for about 4 months. No regrets, except that I didn't get them sooner.
Thanks so much for the encouraging words... I am 48 and I start the process with spacers July 8th and my braces go on July 18th. I kept telling myself I was too old, and it took me about a year to finally make the decision to do this.

You sound like me. At 24, I was in the chair at the dentist's office the day I was having the braces put on, but I got up and walked out. 14 years later, and 1 month in to treatment, I wish I had done it sooner. Good for you.
Re: Finally doing this (I hope)
That's great that you did it! I got mine last year at 25, and I don't regret it one bit. I had loads of inhibitions about getting them, including what people would think of me at work, and the fact that I'm allergic to nickel so was sure something would go wrong if I had braces... turns out nobody even notices my braces at work (ceramic uppers) and my nickel allergy doesn't affect the inside of my mouth, I can even wear NiTi wires!
Best of luck with your treatment!

Congratulations on making the decision to get braces. I'm sure the only thing you'll regret is that you didn't do it sooner. I look forward to hearing how its going.

Thanks! I've started a thread under Braces Stories to keep track of my progress:ItsJustKim wrote:Congratulations on making the decision to get braces. I'm sure the only thing you'll regret is that you didn't do it sooner. I look forward to hearing how its going.

Your teeth sound exactly like mine! One side is ok, but a snaggly canine on one side! I'm exactly the same, use my 'good' side etc.
Which kind of braces are you going for??
Thanks for the support, guys. Once I have appointments, I won't cancel them... so the goal is to get to the point where I schedule a brace date and then there's no turning back.
seeker304, I don't want braces, but I want straight teeth. No one other than my boyfriend (and you fine strangers on the internet) knows I've made this appointment so I can avoid the negativity surrounding it and do what I need to do for myself. I didn't have braces as a kid because my parents and childhood dentist didn't think I needed any sort of treatment. When I was 19, I made the decision to find a new dentist, who did a quick look around and told me my teeth are clean and healthy and said I had to get my wisdom teeth out and that I might want to look into braces. Well, I got the wisdom teeth out about 6 years ago, when I was 21, but never went forward with a visit to an orthodontist.
The right side of my mouth is near perfect. Everything is lined up and fits nicely. Unfortunately, I've got a very out-of-line snaggle canine on the top left, along with a crossbite that's causing my premolars to not fit comfortably together. It's not the worst thing, but I usually make sure pictures of me are from my "good" side and I consciously (and sometimes subconsciously) cover up my mouth when I smile/laugh because of it. Does it sound superficial? Yes, absolutely... but pain doesn't have to be physical in order for it to hurt.
Re: Finally doing this (I hope)
rubywoo, I've been in braces for 2 weeks now. Ended up with Damons (clear top, metal bottom). I can not wait for this canine to start straightening out and moving down and it seems like every tooth, except that one, is starting to loosen uprubywoo wrote:Your teeth sound exactly like mine! Have you started treatment yet? I'd love to follow your progress since it sounds like we have similar cases

Re: Finally doing this (I hope)
I'm also 27, I've had braces for a couple of months now and am surprised at how much change I can already see. It's a great age for braces, I feel a lot more confident and ready for them now although I definently regret not getting it done sooner.
Congratulations on getting braced, hopefully it all goes smoothly for you!

Re: Finally doing this (I hope)
Thanks! I don't see any changes yet, so I'm obviously looking forward to that day... and I'm also regretting not doing this sooner. I figure, 2 years from now I can look in the mirror at my great smile and be glad I got it over with when I didAdultGettingBraces wrote:I'm also 27, I've had braces for a couple of months now and am surprised at how much change I can already see.
