I've noticed from pictures online that some times the ligs are put on like in crisscross, kind of like a figure eight. Other pics show they just wrap the bracket from each of the 4 corners creating like a square (that's how mine are). And I've also seen some tied from only 2 corners from opposite ends on top and bottom of the bracket.
Does anyone know what the reason for this is or is it just the Ortho getting creative with how he bands the ligs?

The ortho changes the way he ties the ligs to play around with the pressure that is exerted on that particular tooth. I believe a figure 8 provides more pressure as the ligature is stretched more.
