It's worth it in the end!

#1 Post by Bridgettt »

Hello! To be honest I've been looking on this site ever since I decided to get braces! I was too shy to become a member but from what I've read on this site everyone seems very friendly and I decided why not make an account! I got my braces on top and bottom on April 11th, 2013. I've had 3 extractions, 2 molars on the bottom and 1 tooth on top. My ortho's plan is to close the extraction at the top and do implants for the 2 molars! I got my braces pretty late SPAM SPAM SPAMMING, (personally late for me) I decided to get them my senior year of high school!

Welcome Bridgett!
I too have decided to get braces late SPAM SPAM SPAMMING. But for me it is MUCH later then you- I am on my 40's and after seeing my daughter (who is in HS) go through it- I decided I could do it too! I'm being brave, but I have a feeling I will be much more of a baby then she has been. Best of luck to you! :)

Thank you :)! I'm excited for the both of you!!! Are you both planning on metal braces or another type? @kids041 It defiantly takes some time to get use to but, the best excuse ever is being able to eat as much ice cream and smoothies as much as you want :jump:

I am planning on metal braces.... that way I can rock the colored ligs! :D I figure if I am going to do this- then I may as well have fun with it along the way. I work in an elementary school and the kids will get a kick out of the colors too!. I am looking forward to having smoothies for sure, but IDK about icecream....don't wanna get fat....

The ice cream part sounds a bit dangerous to me...ice cream is my major weakness!! LOL I will have clear on top and metal on the bottom. After reading this forum....I am trying to decide which color to choose for the bottom!! Still have just under 3 weeks to decide! :-*

I actually have just stuck with clear so far! Now i'm thinking of doing a navy blue only because I heard it makes your teeth appear whiter :)! Which is what I want especially since I have little gaps here and there! I just hope my ortho will put a power chain on the top to close those up!

hahaha well i say ice cream for the first couple of days and then move onto smoothies! The only major downside is that you want to eat EVERYTHING!!!!

Just got back from my 2nd adjustment! I received my bite plate and it's really weird to talk I feel like i have a lisp. it's super annoying and I got a power chain on my front 4th teeth on the top and i decided with a blue color this time! She also gave me 4 1/2oz.3/16" elastics for my 2nd molars to try and upright them since they tilted inward so much!

Oh boy, It's been a while since I've posted but I can officially say i have hit 6 months with my braces! :jump: It feels just like I got them on yesterday! There has been a lot of changes since I first posted. The molar uprighting process is very frustrating! The bands worked for a bit, My left 2nd molar has moved up a little! My ortho thinks that it could be the wisdom teeth that are kind of in the way, so I'm getting those out on December 16th!! I'm hoping that removing these will help and that my molars will finally upright! Because of the molars my wire has stayed to a round one and she finally changed my top wire to something stronger! It's weird to see my top teeth moving and not my bottom :( It's okay though I'm also happy that we are finally closing a gap from a tooth that was extracted last year! We are planning on using the TAD (temporary anchorage device) which i'm also happy about because I've been self conscious ever since I had the tooth extracted! I also got a new appliance to help with the molar uprighting! Too bad it expands the front of my mouth which has made me even more self conscious! Hopefully I won't need it for very long after I get my wisdom teeth extracted <3!
