3 days to go! Getting Damon braces on thursday

#1 Post by lala81 »

Hi everyone,

At 32 years old, I am finally taking the great big plunge and getting my braces put on on Thursday!! I am excited, nervous and emotional all at the same time. I am getting the ceramic "teeth" coloured Damon ones on the top and metal on the bottom.

I have a tiny mouth with a pretty much perfect bite at the back up until about the canines. The top front six have a pretty big overbite, which is my biggest issue. There is a bit of crowding and crookedness at the bottom but nothing too severe, but the orthodondist reckons it's easier for her to manage with braces on top and bottom. Fair enough.

I am concerned about the metal on the bottom standing out heaps. Really concerned about gaps appearing as the teeth begin to move about.

Any words of wisdom, encouragement and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Anedia! It's all very exciting. I have only just found this forum and have spent a good hour and a half reading about everyone's experiences!

Good luck for Wednesday!
(I am taking a whole day off work for it, and considering taking the following day off too....)

oh yes, I've spent lots of time on here reading about everything I could.

I currently only have half of the day off of work the same day and nothing else scheduled. In August, I had a lot of time off (week long vacation + another half week for my wisdom teeth & baby tooth extractions).

If I NEED the time off I still have some available this year but *hopefully* I can make do without it. Luckily I have a job that doesn't involve much talking and is flexible regarding my hours / breaks / etc.

I'm 34, and I get my Damons (clear on top, metal on bottom) on Wednesday. I have all the same concerns and nerves that you do... Especially about those gaps!

Good luck on Thursday... I hope your treatment goes well. :D

Best of luck with your big day, you'll do great. We all somehow get through it. I'm nearly a year into my treatment and it has been delightful.
Well, OK that is sheer nonsense but welcome to the club!

Not sure of the Message Board etiquette here, so I am going to reply to all in one big message…

Thanks Djspeece, looking forward to a delightful experience (fingers crossed!) And, JeniK I hope mine will be pain free too- I had my wisdoms out with practically no pain and actually no swelling, so I think this puts me in good stead…. Time will tell!

MapleLeafMan, Anedia and Woobster, I feel like we have a special bond. All the best for Monday to you MLM, and keep us post on how you’re going!

So, Sunshine Ray- spaces did come along then? What was it like?

Matilda, thank you for the kind words of support. How are you going now that you are almost a year in?

Well, it's the big day for me tomorrow- planning on a 3km jog first up followed by something really hard and crunchy and chewy for lunch (a big salad filled baguette maybe?), then off I go!!!

Kidso41...no change of wire. I asked about that. The tech said that this first wire has more work to do. But it will feel tighter again because of the new ligs. The others were stretched out. One bracket on the right upper came off while she was working on my teeth. Upper wire had to come out while it was replaced. But all is well. It was feeling tight then...and still a bit tight now....but no pain...just the slight tightness. I am seeing progress on the bottom. So I will take that!

Today was the day for me! The tops are on... Bottoms will be added in 4-5 months.

Thinking about how nervous I was, I can just giggle now. I was in and out in an hour and have no pain at all. I was told that I may be sore over the next few days and bought some Tylenol just in case, but so far... Nothing!

My first time down this road wasn't fun at all. Spacers, molar bands, extractions, etc. it was such a relief to have today be so easy.

I hope the next few days go well for all of you! I feel like we have our own little September club.
