After my LeFort I on Tuesday, I was not banded shut, simply two light bands suggesting to my jaws that they might want to rest together in the oh-so-comfy Splint Of Food Trapping Doom.
While this meant I needed no syringe to eat, consuming liquids was still a bit messy; since I can't feel my upper lip... well, Drool City. Enter The Mighty King of Post Op Beverage Implements! *drum roll please!*
*continue drum roll* ('cause it's just that nifty)
*keep going*
The Square Whiskey Tumbler! I picked up a pair of these packaged with a bottle of Irish Whiskey many years ago. They are 8oz square tumblers, and they are perfect for drinking when you can't feel your upper lip. I can "hook" the corner of the glass underneath my splint, and use that corner as a kind of pour spout for dispensing the latest high-calorie liquid concoction into my mouth. I have yet to spill a single drop.
Just thought others might find this information useful.

Love it! I have some old (antique?) "Mad Men" style square tumblers that I'll have to dig out for use after surgery. I'll be drinking in style!

I've been using thin disposable cups. I found I couldn't use anything that was thick!

Oh gosh. I would also take the Irish Whisky. But seriously, I am trying to picture this. . . so you use a square tumbler because . . how does this work? Your splint (which I will have too) . . .does it fit snug to your upper teeth? So you use the "corner angle" of the tumbler to pour that food into your mouth? What hooks where?
OMG. I am a wreck waiting for this 10 days to go by. Trying to stash all my post-op goods (I live alone) and added a nice new Ninja blender to the collection (whoooo love that thing!!)
I'm just wondering what one would use for a square tumbler given that they have no Irish Whisky sitting around (went with the ex I'm afraid)

The splint is wired to my upper archwire and fits snugly against my entire upper arch. I "hook" the edge of the tumbler on the underside of the splint, and use it as a pour-spout for drinking liquid.
Your local housewares store, department store, and/or maybe thrift shop might have some square tumblers. They aren't unique to Irish Whiskey promo items, that just happens to be how I got mine; they aren't something I would have thought to purchase otherwise.
