Introductions.

#1 Post by shiningnebula »

Hello,

I had my braces fitted yesterday. I wasn't sure what to expect but they are quite uncomfortable and will take a bit of getting used to. I've been trying to use the wax but I find it eventually dislodges and rolls into my mouth which is pretty unpleasant. My mouth is beginning to get quite sore now. I can't bite or chew. I've been sticking to soft food as recommended. It hurts to smile. Talking has been fine up until this evening where I'm finding it increasingly difficult and more painful. The dentist did warn me that day 3/4 might be the worst. It's only day 1.5 so I'm dreading what the future holds.

My teeth are really bad, particularly my lower ones. There are no minor adjustments here but full-on repositioning of almost all teeth! The process usually takes 6 months on average but it's been explained that mine will take 9 - 12 months.

I'm completely new to this and feeling really demoralised. It's only been 35hrs!

Congratulations on starting your journey!! I'm a newbie too, I don't even have my brackets yet!! I'm sure it's difficult at first but I bet it will all be worth it in the end... Everyone I've come across who has had braces says they don't regret it... Most say they wish they'd done it sooner!

Hang in there and just think of the end results... Easy for me to say I suppose as I don't have mine yet :Questions:

shiningnebula, Hello and welcome!! I have had my braces for 6 weeks. I had not had to use the wax but a few times.
Hints on the wax....make sure the area where you are going to put the wax...is as dry as possible. Wax will not stay if it is put on a wet bracket.
Drinking water helped to keep my mouth moist so I did not have any part of my braces sticking to my mouth.
As we refer to it here....do the "puffer fish"...I would close my lips and inflate my mouth...that also helped with the sticking of the braces.
Tylenol or IB...will help with the discomfort of the sore teeth.
My first week consisted on yogurt..pudding...mac and cheese...ice cream.
I have a sore tooth today...so I have had a soft grill cheese today. Things can change daily!!
Good luck...believe it or not....it will get better. I am a nothing close to being an expert at this...just a few things that I have learned on here...and what helped me get by in the beginning. But as I said...I have not had the pain that most say they do. I am a lucky one.
