@Lorianne Thanks! Lol, the "lip thing" has been going on for the entire day and I don't see in stopping soon! lol! That's great to hear, the closed lip position is definitely tough! it just feels wrong....I cant recall the specific name of my tooth brush at the moment ( Im at work ) but It gets the job done! I remember a dentist referring an electric to me but I was a brick wall at the time. lol. I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to use that wax soon! These braces are taking advantage of my mouth!

Welcome PW!! I sure am not in your age group...but that is ok! I am 56.
This forum is fantastic for advice..suggestions...support. You will find it all here.

I love my waterpik....use a regular toothbrush. Bounce between Crest and Colgate.

As for popcorn....I was told I can eat it..as long as I am careful. LOL We will see if they tell me anything different tomorrow!! I have my 2nd adjustment tomorrow afternoon.

Oh...one more thing...speaking about you getting your lips just right with the braces....I found myself doing "the puffer fish" look! Blowing out my cheeks..helped with unsticking my braces to my lips!

I'm 39 and in braces for 4 mos. I am in the minority on the water pik. I bought one and used it faithfully the first 2 months but now I like flossing and dont feel the need for the waterpik. Bummer because it was expensive!

Hey, 30 and been in braces for exactly 7 months!! Woo hoo! (I forgot today was 7 months)

I use a Oral B Triumph electric toothbrush... I love it. Only thing I don't love is going thru more toothbrush head attachments but I got a cheaper pack at Costco! I think you are technically supposed to switch them every 3 months but I switch at 2 months now because it gets too beat up and kinda frayed. Maybe I brush too hard? I love my waterpik, but I mainly just use it after meals to spray everything out. I use a whitening kind of Crest toothpaste... whitening and tartar protection or something. And use Act Mouthwash. Careful with mouthwash! The stories about the Crest Pro Health mouthwash (atleast the blue kind) are true... it will leave stains, but they cleaned them off at the dentist. The ACT seems to be ok now. I was going to stop using it but I kinda like it now... feels like it leaves my mouth extra clean at the end of the day.

It is weird getting used to the weird lip feeling... but as soon as you get used to it, things could change too! I was fine and then my overjet (is that the teeth sticking out one?) got worse, then the braces felt weird in my mouth again, like they didn't fit. Now my overjet has closed back up some and it all feels normal again!

Good luck, it all gets way easier.

me too (brick wall! sigh...)! yeah, use the wax, trust me, you deserve it! especially at night for bed. How is Day 2? I am one week today and WOW, for the first time, I am actually feeling more normal today than any previous day. I'm beginning to forget sometimes that they are on! OMG! That's huge progress that I honestly didn't think would happen.

Just got back from my 2nd adjustment. Nothing too exciting. I have the same wire.... plus 2 wire ties. He told me it was to tighten up the wire on the rotated teeth. It was extremely tight when he did it. Felt like my front teeth were going to break and fall in my mouth. I thought if that happens..no need for braces!! LOL Also, up until this adjustment..they could not get the lig totally where it should be on my right front tooth. But today....it is totally out of sight! She said that tooth has rotated so she could attach it as it should be. Progress!!!
But all is well. He was happy with my progress and I go back in 6 weeks!!

Where did you purchase yours from? I saw some on amazon for some pretty reasonable prices. How's the 4 months been?

Lol Maybe....The corny video they showed me after I got them on said to brush lightly or your gums will disappear....lol. I'm just using whatever toothpaste I have lying arround. I think the most important part is actually the techniques being use to actually clean.....I haven't found a mouth wash yet so I'm using none at the moment but that will soon change.

The lip stride is still a challenge for me. Yes I believe you're correct about the overjet. Nice!!! Reading on I got scared for you! Spending so much money should't be such a gamble. I'm glad things are back to normal! So far the best position for my lips id to have my mouth half open....CAN WE SAY DRY MOUTH CHAPPED LIPS!!! ALL DAY CHAP STICK! lol
