open bite progress after 7 months
Hello!
Here is a picture of the progress I have made in closing my open bite. I have been in braces for 7 months now.
I am happy with my progress, but there is still heaps of work to do I think. My smile is still very canted. I hope elastics can do something to fix that? My ortho is now working to correct my crossbite first with crossbite elastics. I already see a bit progress.
I keep you updated!
Anna

Another picture: here is a picture of my lateral open bite which still has to be closed. Hopefully I will get elastics for this soon again. Sorry for the terribly yellow stained teeth! The elastic you see is a crossbite elastic to fix my crossbite.

And here is a picture on which you see that my lower incisors are not level at all yet, although it was worse before. I hope the ortho can fix this soon!

Very nice progress, I'm in a similar spot. 6 months in and my bite was open in the front and on one of the sides.
My teeth aren't quite as straight as yours yet, but my bite has closed up all the way with elastics to the point of making contact everywhere, it's really cool. I wore box elastics for just under 4 months.

Re: open bite progress after 7 months
Thank you all for your replies. That really encourages me, because sometimes I can only see all the imperfections that are still there. But there has definitely been progress in the past 7 months!
I am also very encouraged by seeing all your progress, since we are all in the same boat heading toward a more beautiful smile!

Anna your teeth look great! You have made tons of progress!! I wouldn't be discouraged with your progress at all!! I am also working on closing a lateral open bite on both sides (also caused by thumbsucking and a bad tongue thrust which resulted from the thumbsucking! Damn thumb!) The reverse curve arch wire they put on my lower arch has helped a ton! It is a very slow process trying to get those teeth to extrude. I hope to get the reverse curve wire on top next week when I have my next adjustment. Anyway I posted pics in response to Timetoshine's thread regarding the "curve of spee" so you can see my progress with the lower arch leveling out
check the pics out.. I think it will give you some comfort knowing that uneven problem is an easy fix.

Thanks for your kind and very encouraging messages, Bickerchick, Andy and Mathilde. That means so much for me, considering that I am still often suffer from low esteem because of my teeth. I hope you are right that my results will be great! And I hope the same for you all.
I checked your pics, Bickerchick. You have made great progress! That is interestin that you are also getting a lateral open bite fixed yet. What is a reverse curve archwire? At my last adjustment this week, my ortho put some bends in my lower wire at the side of the crossbite/ open bite, but I think that is not the same as a reverse curve archwire? Anyway, I hope the bends will help to close my open bite!

Great link, kids041!kids041 wrote:HI- here are pics of the Reverse Curve of Spee (RCS) archwire http://www.ultimatewireforms.com/produc ... e-spee.php
That's exactly what the wire looks like (a rocking chair). It hurt like hell when they put it on at first but man did it work fast! You may ask your ortho about this wire, Anna. I know mine was planning on changing my top wire next week, but I'm not sure to what kind. I'm going to ask if I can get a reverse curve wire for the top to help my premolars (what's left of 'em) extrude.

This wire moves your front teeth downwards and back teeth upwards, therefore reducing the front teeth from being higher than the back teeth. It is an amazing wire!

Re: open bite progress after 7 months
That wire sounds good, Bickerchick. I may ask my ortho about it!
You honestly think my teeth don't look that bad? And that I don't need surgery to get a good result (as initially recommended)? I am particularly worried about my crossbite, narrow and canted upper jaw. On the other side, the crossbite is in the back (at my molars) and that't not too visible, so who cares (apart from myself) if it won't be completely corrected? Surgery still scares me very much and my ortho first wants to see how much he can improve without surgery.
I want to thank you all very much for your kind and encouraging replies. It means so, so much for me, as I am still feeling self conscious and worrying a lot about my teeth. I am sure I couldn't cope with this all without all your loving support. This forum is such a great place to share our stories, but also our struggles and insecurities. No matter how bad the teeth are, we are here not to judge or laugh at each other, but to lovingly support each other on our journeys, and that is so wonderful!
