My top tooth is turning -despite wearing my retainer faithfu

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

My top tooth is turning -despite wearing my retainer faithfu

#1 Post by dontbeweary »

my top tooth next to my two front teeth is rotating. I have faithfully worn my plastic containers nightly, never missed a night. I went back and he adjusted it but it is still rotating.

problem is im no longer a patient so to speak. no more free service. its been a year since my braces are off. do i need to get braces again? . their adjustments to the retainer are not working.

I didnt realize how bad it looked until i took pics of my self and can see the difference in pics.

Why not try wearing it all day instead of just at night? Give it a few weeks and see if there are any changes. The teeth may need more than just nightly wear for a while.

Or you can go in for a retainer adjustment...the money will be less than having to wear braces again.

Good luck!

Are you wearing a clear plastic retainer or an acrylic and wire retainer?
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

I would contact the ortho and ask if you can come in and have it looked at so it can be determined if anything needs to be done, a consult, in essence. May not cost anything. Certainly won't cost to ask.

request a free consult. does this tooth hit any opposing teeth when you close? did this tooth merely relapse to its original position? a single spring retainer can fix you right up. they lab gets a model of your teeth. we cut the crooked tooth free of the model, and reposition it back on the model in its correct position. the spring retainer made on this adjusted model will correct the rotation issues. fees depend on number of visits to your dds. he may need to strip the contacts between the crooked tooth and the 2 next to it in order to free up some space so the tooth can be aligned. request a fixed appliance if its feasible after this correction.
