Lower jaw surgery October 4, 2013

#1 Post by Noella »

So I'm new here.... But I've read a lot of posts and have a question of my own.
So I had lower jaw surgery and genioplasty. The surgery shifted my jaw back and was very successful. However I am having some issues. So my surgeon puts me in rubber bands and my bite is beautiful so he decided to take the rubber bands off and see if my bite would hold. But it doesn't, at all it always shifts back on the right side to an edge to edge bite. We've gone through this several times and I'm getting to tears at how quickly my right side wants to shift back without the rubber bands. Is this because of muscle memory? My surgeon said my X-rays look good. I'm at a loss of why the right side won't hold in position. He' currently has me rubber banded in a box shape and wants to ween me off the rubber bands so I can be released to my ortho but I'm so scared it will shift again. I'll try and post photos but I'm not sure how so Ill try my best.
Thanks in advance! Hopefully I'm just being impatient with my muscles. Oh by the way the surgery was to correct a class III cross bite.

Hi Noella,

I don't see any responses I just realized many of these posts are years old!
Unfortunately I could not give you an opinion but just hoping that everything worked out for you!
