Braces for the 2nd time at 45.. Damon or Traditional?

I wore braces at 18 for 4 years, I had an over bite and deep bite. At the time I had 2 congenitally missing teeth, 2nd mandibular pre-molar both sides. At the time the ortho didn't want to close the spaces so he opened them up enough for a bridge.... many, many years later I had the bridge (s)removed and am embarking on braces again. I am able to have the spaces closed now with the help of a TAD(2) however I'm not sure if Damon is the way to go as I do not want my teeth moved so fast that I end up with root issues... any suggestions? Also I have major crowding (mandibular), and my bite is now direct mandibular incisors to mandible incisors...and I grind like crazy! ....

Damon braces will not move your teeth fast enough to cause more root problems than traditional braces. If anything, they may be gentler on your teeth because the pressure varies less than traditional braces with ligs. If you're going to have root problems, you'll have them either way, which is why it's important for your ortho to work with your regular dentist and periodontist if you're prone to issues.

With that, go with the ortho you like and trust, not the type of braces. There are good orthos for both and there are bad orthos for both.
