gummy smile

#1 Post by leisuresports »

I'm in my 40s. Had braces now for almost 3 years. First ortho left me with a cant and an unbalanced upper arch. Second ortho has balanced out my arch nicely and has almost fixed the cant. All has been going miraculously well except now the last couple of adjustments have given me a gummy smile when I smile fully, which I didn't have before braces. I'm not a perfectionist. Just want to get back to looking like my old self. Has anyone had this experience? Any idea what I can do from here? Will it get worse when he tightens my upper wire after he fixes the cant?

I'm getting a crown lengthening procedure by my periodontist, which will cut excess gum tissue to make my teeth appear longer, and this also reduces gummy smiles. In my case, I'm doing this to make more room for 8 crowns I will need after the braces come off but it's also a cosmetic procedure.
Braces removed for 3rd and final time July 14, 2016!!!!

Permanent 8 crowns front 8 teeth (upper) January 30, 2015

Braces removed again December 3, 2014!!

Partial braces re-installation September 25, 2014

Braces removed September 4, 2014!

THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. there are 2 usual causes (or combination of the 2 in some cases I suppose):
1) Short teeth. Fixed by exposing gum tissue, but you may require veneers. As per post above.
2) Excess vertical height of your maxilla. Fixed through maxillary impaction (surgery) or possibly TADs.

I suspect you will have to live with it.
