Flossing around molar bands

#1 Post by JN_Woods »

How does one floss around molar bands? I've tried the past 2 nights and that floss will not go in there. I'm just so frustrated with it. Any tips?

I had the same problem.

What I did was I took the stiff end of the floss and put it in between my molars. Then I pulled it out through the other side so that I could get the floss in between my molars. Then I flossed and pulled it out as I normally would. I did that like twice and after that I was able to get the floss in there as normal without a problem.

Hope it helps.

They might have gotten glue in between. That happened to me but I went for a dental cleaning a few days later and they scraped it out for me.

It took me the better part of three weeks before my molars had shifted enough so that I could squeeze floss in there between the bands. And I am religious about flossing, so that was really annoying for me. It was SO satisfying the first time I succeeded (though a tad painful after all that time!). Hang in there and keep trying - it will work eventually!

Threading the stiff end through the molar bands is probably the only way if the bands are too tight together. It is possible that there may be some cement stuck between your teeth as that is exactly what I had. The first night after getting the braces on, my floss snapped 3 times before I realized this. I went back to my OD the next day and had the cement chipped out. I'm able to floss between my bands now, although waxed floss works a whole lot better for me.

Don't take my lead, but I don't floss my molars at all. In fact, I only floss a few times a week usually. I'll do better when the braces aren't in the way.

At my last cleaning, the hygienist said I was doing an exellent job LOL

I can't get floss between my molars either.... I'm pretty sure there's some glue in there where it doesn't belong.

In just over a week, I'm getting the bicuspids that are right beside the bands pulled.... would the glue in between pose a problem or will they be able to pop those suckers right out?

I'm pretty sure it won't matter, if they're taking an entire tooth out a little glue shouldn't pose any problem.
