Glad to hear you have finally got your inmans fitted, your holiday will do you the world of good - at least you have something to look forward to and the fact that you don't have to speak at school is a bonus, by September you'll be fine and so will your speech!

Day 2 today and I'm getting on fine. Had a great nights sleep. Today I find it's more painful to take it in and out. Speech hasn't improved yet, I'm hiding away but trying to sing along to the radio to improve speech!How many times a day do people take it in and out? I'd say it'll be six times by time I go to bed tonight. Is that too much? Also what are people cleaning them with? I've just used water so far...

Hi tmcn! I had mine fitted last night! I feel slight pressure but no pain as such. Speech is horrendous!!!! I'm aiming to wear it as much as possible and will only take it out to eat and clean it/my teeth.... Although I have a meeting this morning for an hour so I fear I will have to remove it for that to be understood! Have you been given timescales? My dentist said 4-5 months so I was a little disappointed as I thought from all the blurb I've read it would be waaay quicker....
I've been cleaning mine with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste. I find it a little tricky putting it in and taking it out - I'm scared I break the spring!

Sounds like we'll be on a similar timescale! I'm getting mine in 2 weeks and like ladyF I was also told it'll take 4-5 months! It'll be great to keep in touch and see how everyone is getting on.
Good luck with your first few days, I'm dreading the speech issues!!

Day 3 and my speech isn't any better! Other than that it's perfect- sleeping well,eating well etc. My teeth are quite tender when I take it out and eat but when it is in I forget about it.
LadyF- good to hear someone else is starting the same time! I think Im finished the end of October, I've to wear the clear aligners for October I think, then after that I start the teeth whitening process. To be honest, in my head I'm thinking that if I'm finished everything by Christmas I'll be happy so if there's a delay I won't be too disappointed.
I was told by my dentist to wear it for 18 hours max as part of the process is not wearing them, but when I listen to everyone else, they seem to be told up to 20. I've also been told a tooth brush can damage it and he told me to get a mouthwash but I can't remember the name. It's either with or without fluoride but I can't remember which. On the little card I got with my brace it says dental cleaner so I might take a trip to the chemist and they might know. Ordered a couple of extra cases for it on eBay, very cheap, so I can keep one on my bedside locker and my bag and one for when I return to work because knowing me I'll forget to bring it!
No movement yet, I'm going to take a picture every week to see the improvements. Can you upload pictures here? There's a few good videos on YouTube which follow people's journeys, the results are amazing!

Hey Rosiesue and tmcn! Yes, isn't great to hear we're at more or less the same stage so it's really good to hear each other's stories....

Good idea to take photos - that's what I'm doing too - even took a selfie with a normal smile and to be honest, it was barely noticeable in the pictures... I'm not sure about uploading, I'm not the best at techy stuff if I'm honest!

Really the only drawback is speech but the fact that it's removable means for those important moments at work or home you can take it out. The first day it was rubbing off the inside of my cheek and my dentist said try salt and water before anything else and it cleared it up overnight, it's fine now. Best of luck with everything! I'm going on holidays in two weeks and I'm not sure how I'm going to manage to keep it in for the recommended time. I'll be taking it out for breakfast, lunch etc and then in the evenings if I go for dinner at 7 or 8 and drinks after that all adds up... I want to enjoy my holidays but I'm afraid of setting the treatment back if it's out for more. Anyone any experience with this? I realise that you're not allowed hot drinks incase it melts it, tea incase it stains it but what about clear drinks like 7 up or clear alcohol drinks so I could enjoy a few drinks while keeping it in.

Great to hear your all around the same timescale, I have found this forum to be a real morale booster, it's so good to know your not alone.
I promise you all, your speech will improve, the more you practice speaking the better it will be, I read out loud every morning for at least 10 minutes, don't need to do this now as my speech is so much clearer, I found that my first adjustment made all the difference. Yes, it is a long process but definitely worth it, I really feel I'm almost there now especially after my 3rd review which was just over a week ago, I had a real good look this morning and my smile is miles better and my teeth finally look straight! I go back on 29th July for impressions for the clear retainer (Essix I think its called), this takes 10 days to be made once the impressions get to the lab, I think I have to wear this for a month while my teeth settle down, then I finally get my veneers which is what I went for in the first place!!
With regard to your sore mouth, again, this will get better - probably after a week to ten days you will start to notice it's not quite so sore. I drink all cold fluids with my retainer in, yes, even red wine (although I probably shouldn't but nothing has stained so I'm guessing this is ok), it's not quite as enjoyable though as drinking it without the Inman in.
I clean my Inman with a soft toothbrush at night and first thing in the morning and every third day I dissolve a sterident tablet (denture cleaner) and soak it in that for three minutes before giving it a good rinse in cold water, just make sure the water you use with the sterident is only luke warm.
I guess I have mine out for a total of 3 hours a day apart from Friday and Saturdays when I want to chill out with a glass or two of red wine and a nice meal, then it is probably more like 4 hours. I feel bad leaving it out for more that an hour, so quickly rinse my mouth out and pop it back in!
I will be so glad when it's all over, apparently the Essix retainer (clear plastic thing) is much easier to wear than the Inman so am looking forward to the next stage. Will keep posting.

It's really nice that there are so many of us having treatment at the same time. I think the dentist just say 4-5 mths so that if it's quicker we are all even more impressed! My dentist said about 16 weeks originally I've done 5 so far.
With regard to cleaning I've been putting mine in Retainer Brite in the morning while I have breakfast and then brush with my tooth brush at night. I've also been using Colgate fluorigard which my dentist advised me to mouth rinse with each day particularly after having the filing.
Just think by Christmas we will all have great smiles!

Hi all, been reading up on the posts from previous years and I've realised that I have an arch expander too that covers the roof of my mouth. I've to turn it with a key but I haven't been shown that yet. Does the arch expander stay for the whole treatment? Does it affect your speech even more because I can't touch the roof of my mouth? I take it that it's for people that have overcrowding? Can't remember the dentist mentioning it.
Wearing it around 20 hours a day, just taking it out to chat and eat. It's a lot of effort to have a long conversation with it in! Practising speech every morning, found speech exercises online from a Tasmanian orthodontist that are good. Still early days, it's only day 4. Teeth aren't as tender which is good!

I'm sure I've read posts where people have had the expander and then it's been removed later. I guessing it probably does make speaking even harder.

Saw that the other day. There's some difference in her teeth from the start to the end. Even after a year her teeth still look great. What was mad was how her teeth looked at the start even though she had two year s of train tracks when she was younger but wasn't told about the retainer. Just shows how vital the retainer is. My dentist had mentioned the wire, the removable ones and the Essex ones but am interested in what others are doing??

Hi again.... Unfortunately I didn't wear it as much as I should have at the weekend there as I had lots of social things going on.... feel quite a lot of pressure when it's in and when I woke on Sunday there was some dried blood around the gum line at the top... Really sore on taking it out and brushing my teeth :( Good news is I'm finding it less tricky putting it in and taking it out now.
Speech is still horrendous lol!! I sometimes find it really tiring having to over-enunciate and still have to repeat myself a couple of times....
Sometimes I think I see a slight difference in the alignment but if it's out for more than a couple of hours I feel as though it slides back to it's original position?
