Need answer ASAP!! Loose Surgical Hooks

#1 Post by fern59 »

Hello everyone,

I am going to be having my double jaw surgery in two days, this Wednesday. I went to go get my surgical hooks put on today, but now that I am home I am realizing that they are swiveling a bit and are able to slide down the gap between adjacent brackets. I'm freaking out over this right now!! And there is no way i can see my ortho tomorrow.
I'd like to know if this is how they are supposed to be or if they are supposed to be stiff, as if they were glued in place?

Thank you very much!!!!

Call your Oral Surgeon right now. I think the tension they put on them during surgery will mean they aren't going to slide during the op, but you need to ask the surgeon to be sure. I know mine didn't budge.

Even if they aren't supposed to be loose, the OS probably has the tools necessary to re-crimp, but you certainly don't want any of this to be a big surprise to the surgeon on surgery day.

Thank you guys for your quick response!!
I actually just drove down all the way to where my orthodontist was today, about 3 hours away!!, to get them fixed. And by the looks of it, it was the right thing to do.
Thanks again
