A word of caution with the Essix retainers - be careful over the long term that they don't warp or bend. After my first round in braces some 12 or so years ago, I had that happen and stopped wearing my retainers after that. As a result, my teeth shifted and I am about to start round 2 of treatment. I'm told the way to go is a permanent retainer behind the teeth, which I'll probably inquire about when I'm nearing completion of treatment.

In regards to Hum, that was/is a concern of mine. My teeth have improved since I have had my braces removed (braces: the gift that keeps on giving lol) anyway, I know the plastics and composites have improved a lot just in the last 5 years. However, I am considering the Vivera retainers from Invisalign. Being a hardcore night time grinder, these really do serve two purposes for me...The Vivera retainers, although I have to pay for them and I think its about $600 for 3 or 4 sets...basically, you can get up to 1 year wear with one set, and because its the same impression all of the trays are the same...so I dunno...but it is a good point because these things do feel kinda flimsy..

Your smile is beautiful! I also have an open bite and will be consulting an ortho this week. Have you been able to maintain a normal bite since having your braces removed. A huge concern for me is getting braces and then having my open bite return once they are removed.
