I have my lower jaw surgery coming up soon and I'm beginning to worry about the exercise aspect afterwards.
I'm in the police, so as I'm already taking 8 weeks off work I can't come back completely useless exercise and fitness wise. Could anyone give me a personal guide to what happened to them exercise work?
Everything I read seems to tell me to do nothing at all but it isn't really an option - at what point would I be able to do light jogs, push ups etc? I assume I'd be okay to do lower level yoga or pilates or something fairly early on?
Exercise after surgery?

Re: Exercise after surgery?
Hey, hope everything goes well with your surgery man!
I was also worried about the same aspect in my life and how it would be affected by undergoing surgery. I had a double jaw surgery done 24 days ago and I can tell you from experience, as well as what my surgeon told me, that you should be able to resume exercising within 10 days after the surgery. It all comes down to how you feel and whether you have the energy to exercise.
I started working out lightly after 10 days post-op. My workout consisted of mostly bodyweight exercises, like pushups, pull-ups, dips, lunges, air squats, and abdominal work. I would not recommend working out like you used to prior to surgery, as working out heavily would increase your blood pressure to an extent which can cause more swelling and perhaps bleeding of the nose and your incisions, since the blood vessels are not fully healed yet.
As of today, I am still not working out to the extent in which I was prior to my surgery, but I have progressed to light-medium weight free weights, avoiding any strenuous work. I am probably going to give it another week or two before I return to my regular workout regime.
I hope this helps!

Re: Exercise after surgery?
I had only upper jaw surgery and my surgeon advised me not to begin working out until 3 weeks post-op, and I had to wait until I was 6 weeks post-op to do high-impact activities. So 10 days seems a bit early, especially after double jaw surgery.
Good luck with your surgery.
Good luck with your surgery.
Re: Exercise after surgery?
Your surgeon should be able to give you a better idea a week or two after your surgery is over; by that point it'll be known how well you are healing.

I think you no need to worry about afterward excercises and precautions, because your doctor will explain it to you very well.
