Incognito Specialist Sydney Australia
Hi all,
I am about to jump on the Incognito bandwagon but am looking for some advice on a good Ortho. The 3m website lists those that have done the necessary training but I am looking for someone that has lots of experience in Sydney.
I have already seen 2 ortho's and paid $150 for each consultation. The first has plenty of experience but that fact he said he could get my teeth 90 or 95% right with lingual didn't inspire me with confidence. The 2nd talked about teeth extractions which I didn't like (although accept it if necessary). I have 2 more specialists I wish to see (from my Internet Research) which will cost another $300 in consultation fees so really struggling to decide on someone. Also cost wise I was quoted $14,000 for Upper Incognito and Lower Ceramics
Can anyone recommend someone they have had good results with or that they know is very experienced in providing incognito. Much appreciated.
Cheers

In order to avoid the dreaded 0 responses, I will respond to my own post
So I finally decided (well 95%) on an ortho with a cost for Linguals both arches $13,300. Unlike my teeth, that's not too shabby in my view (I know US prices are much better than this but what can you do). Also this Ortho seemed to know what he was talking about which gives me a bit of confidence. I can't believe the first Ortho was so adamant that I needed teeth pulled. I'm glad I shopped around even though it cost me. Hopefully the end results is worth it

Definitely worth shopping around. Once the darn things are in you have to live with them, and having confidence in and access to your orthodontist will help a lot!!
Re: Incognito Specialist Sydney Australia
Thanks Winwired. Agree - although it gets expensive over here with such high consult fees ($150). I actually seen #4 the other day and now am trying to decide who to go with. #4 is well respected and lectures all over the globe. My only issue was that the consult seem very rushed. It was like they wanted me in and out the door in the fastest possible time. And while he creates the treatment plan he only oversees the treatments in consultation with the ortho's across his 4 clinics so I don't think I will have major access to him directly.............decisions decisions

Hi guys,
I'm in the same boat atm. I've been to 2 already and they just say they don't do it because of the time and complexity of it - so b.s.
Can I please ask you to list which ortho you chose to go with?
I'm having a hard time trying to cull through all the dentists who say they do it from the ones who actually do it.
Thanks so much in advance and hope to hear from you soon!

When I was thinking about lingual braces (I had mine off a couple of weeks ago - woo!) I did a lot of research too.
1) Don't get too wedded to Incognito. It's just a brand name and there are plenty of other lingual systems out there. By only looking for Incognito practitioners, you may be overlooking some very good orthos who just happen to use the other systems. (I think mine were eBrace or something.)
2) If you really want linguals, find a lingual specialist, not just an ortho who happens to have paid to go on a two day seminar to find out how to fit them. You want someone who does this stuff ALL the time. I chose a specialist lingual orthodontist and I was very happy with him. I'm sure some generalists are also great, but you should ask plenty of questions about what percentage of his patients have linguals, how he finds working with linguals compared to conventional braces etc.
3) If you're struggling, try your national association/society. Pretty much everywhere has one. Here's the Australian one - http://www.aslo.com.au/ They don't have much information, but it's worth dropping them an email to ask about any of their members in the Sydney area. If someone's bothered to join this kind of thing, they probably care about what they're doing.
I have no regrets about having linguals at all. I got a really, really good result (even without jaw surgery, which I needed for a perfect result) and my treatment seems to have gone much more smoothly and also more quickly than a friend who has linguals from a more general ortho.
Good luck!!

Hey Sbrierly,
I ended up going with Sydney Smile Specialists. They have offices in Chatswood and Randwick. I am going to the Chatswood which is run by Dr Nour Eldin Tarraf. The reason I went with him is because he specialises in lingual and has a lot of experience with them. Also out of all my consults, he took the time to talk through everything and answer all my questions so put me right at ease. Cost wise it is $14k which was slightly cheaper than others (although I was more concerned about experience). They also gave me contact details for a previous patient so was able to ask questions about their experience.
I wasn't specifically looking for Incognito but it does seem to be the major brand used by each of the 4 lingual ortho's I went to.
Happy to answer any other questions. Good luck.
Cheers

I also go to Sydney Smile Specialists, but in Randwick. They seem to have plenty of experience with Incognito, so I wouldn't worry about that being an issue. Even some of the staff have them, so it's nice being worked on by people you know can relate.
