Re: IMPACTED CANINES CLUB
How long did it take for you guys to bring the canine where it needs to be? I'm a 30 year old with an impacted mandibular canine.
Re: IMPACTED CANINES CLUB
I'm 30 too. About 30% of my tooth is out which took 7 months. Now for the last 3 we've been trying to turn it because it's coming in sideways and it's been slower than I hoped. I'll probably need one or two more months of that /sigh/
My other teeth have been moving so much as well, it's just a mess.

Thanks for that post SandSnake. Is your canine maxillary or mandibular and was it impacted on on the lips side or the palate/tongue?
Does anyone have any experience with AcceleDent? Can it be used to bring up the canine faster?

Re: IMPACTED CANINES CLUB
I had my canine exposed about 7 months ago and it's probably about 80% of the way down but needs to be turned slightly and has caused movement in the adjacent teeth. Mine was maxillary and was on the lip side.Abs wrote:Thanks for that post SandSnake. Is your canine maxillary or mandibular and was it impacted on on the lips side or the palate/tongue?

I haven't heard of AcceleDent being used for impacted canines. If you read through this thread, you'll see Orthos have some tricks up their sleeve. Good luck.

Here is a side by side I did with the Xray I got in late October and the picture I just took this morning. The arrow is pointing to the link that the elastic is tied to. So as the picture shows, I've still got such a long way to go. I hope I can get another xray soon. My ortho is giving me until March I believe to show progress or I have to consider having it pulled.

Hello everyone!!
i'm going for my 2nd consultation next month and i must say i'm very excited. At the same time, i'm pretty nervous because i have an impacted canine and a missing lateral incisor. My impacted canine is above my premolar, my dentist said that the canine has to go forward first before he can pull it down. Chances are the roots of the premolar and canine might "brush" one another and it will "kill" both teeth. Another option is to remove both baby canine and impacted canine and close up the gap as much as possible. If the gap can't be closed up, i need to go for an implant or tooth denture after the braces treatment. I'm losing sleep thinking of this every day and night. Personally, i prefer the first option which is to bring the canine down but i will risk losing both canine and premolar if it fails. Anyone in the same situation as me? :(

My impacted canine (lower jaw) is very close to the roots of my incisors but my orthodontist felt that it could be pulled forward and then brought up without affecting the roots.

Re: IMPACTED CANINES CLUB
Finally my braces are off! 3 years and 11 months later...
My treatment took so long due to my impacted canine. I had my exposure surgery October 2011, 8 months after getting my braces on.
The experience was nothing but frustrating. It took 1 year for my canine to appear. Once it broke through the skin, it was another 6 months before it was all the way down.
Just when I thought the end was near, it needed to be rotated 180 degrees . Several months went by trying to get the canine in the right position.
After all was said & done I am very pleased with my result. To everyone going through this, just try to be patient! Impacted canines are the worst & require a lot of time. When you are debraced and smiling ear to ear, it will be worth it!

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum :)
Impacted canines are an absolutely nightmare aren't they!? My story... I had incognito lingual braces fitted both top and bottom on Wednesday. I'm not going to lie, it's been a nightmare! My tongue is cut to pieces, I can't eat anything that isn't liquid and I can't talk properly!! Just to make it worse, I had a maxillary impacted canine removed under general anaesthetic on Friday. My mouth, cheeks and eyes are so swollen! I resemble a bulldog chewing a wasp! I know it'll all be worth it in the end but it's hard to be positive right now!
Any advice guys!!? If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

Hi Millersgirl, although I don't have access to see your xray, I feel your pain. Both my upper canines were activated last June 2014 (coming close to 8 months). One of them has come down quite nicely, but the other has not and doesn't look like it has moved at all :( My ortho took a photo last month and will do so again in 2 weeks to check for movement, but I can tell he is not hopeful.
Have you spoken to your ortho about the alternatives if it doesn't move by March? I know you said "having it pulled" but then what happens? Just close the gap by pulling your premolar forward or perhaps get an implant? I asked by ortho what happens if my canine doesn't move, but his response was that we'll talk about it if it comes to that...and he hasn't given me a deadline for movement yet so kinda feel like i'm in limbo with no real idea of what my treatment will be like this year.

Have it pulled, bone graft surgery and then an implant. I'm praying it's moving but I'm not sure it is. I have another ortho appointment in a week and a dentist appointment a week after that. If ortho doesn't take an xray I think my dentist will. I hate this stupid tooth but am trying to remain positive that it's moving. It started completely horizontal and very far back so it's got a LONG way to travel.alice1987 wrote:millersgirl wrote:

I got my braces put on December 2013 and had my baby canine pulled in June of 2014. August 19th, 2014 they exposed my adult canine (as it was above the bone up until that point) and they attached a button it it. I was going every three weeks so my ortho could constantly watch progress and two visits (6 weeks) after having the tooth exposed, they took the button off and put on a bracket! I've since then had the bracket on and am on my second wire working my way back up to the strongest one! It's a slow process but it's only been 5 months which seems pretty fast compared to most people's I've read on here. I also have to wear elastics on my canine to help pull it down (I double up for speedy progress, oops! :) ) 24/7 so I'm sure that's helping also! I want this little guy down, I'm so SICK of this hole in the front of my mouth :(
