Wire came out of buccal tube. Problem?

#1 Post by DanInVA »

While dislodging food I pushed out the wire from the buccal tube on my last molar. Should I go in today and have them put it back in or wait until my next adjustment? The tube bracket doesn't have a ligature on it so does the wire still move the tooth?

I've done this a couple of times but I have managed to maneuver back in with a pair of tweezers in front of a mirror. There are some tutorials on YouTube which I found helpful. But if you're in doubt phone your ortho and ask them for advice :)

Does the wire in the tube provide movement or just a place to hold the wire?

Thanks for the quick replies. I called and they said I could wait until my next adjustment as long as it's not poking. I'm assuming it's not providing any major movement to that tooth.

It sounds like in this stage it's not doing much, but don't assume that throughout treatment. The last molar usually doesn't move much, but it does often provide something for the other teeth to push against. It doesn't have ligatures because the tube itself performs that function.

For peace of mind I had them put it back during my lunch break yesterday.
