Hi from sunny Somerset!!
Heya, thought I should introduce myself!
My names Nicki, I am 27 and had my metal installed a couple weeks ago I'm not to good with the technical terms but my right canine tooth was taken out and a chain attached last month. Still struggling with eating and my first brace mistake was having pretty light blue elastics and ordering a curry the third day of having them lol...nice green tint!
Can anyone offer advice on what they attach the chain to, to pull the tooth down?
I need lots of eating advice! I miss my food as I'm being careful not to stain and I struggle with hard foods as my front teeth really ache to bite into things. So I will probably get a reputation for hanging around threads about food

Re: Hi from sunny Somerset!!
9 days in and have been on a semi liquid diet, here's what I recommend
1. look up protein shakes - theres a lot of recipes out there to mix with whey protein so it doesnt get boring
2. get a blender - seriously a blender and food processor is any braced individual's best friend (after a water flosser of course)
Here's what a typical day can look for me meals wise, i didn't want to go down the high carb (mashed potato, congee etc) route as I'm also training 3-4 times a week so I opted for a fairly high protein diet as below
1. Breakfast - whey protein + banana + chia seeds + ground flax + avocado + almond milk => put in blender
2. Mid morning - a box of chocolate milk (too lazy to floss so tend to not eat anything too solid)
3. Lunch - chicken breast, vegies and soup => chicken breast put into blender to mash up a bit before putting back into the soup
4. Afternoon snack - spiru protein shake + almond milk
5. workout drink - 2 x whey protein before after
6. dinner - steamed brocolli and eggs
Getting plenty of healthy calories in so I don't starve, fairly liquid so it reduces the need to chew a lot while staying fairly sugar free to prevent unwanted cavities during my brace sentencing
Hope this helps!

Whow aspiro! That all sounds so good and healthy! I will be honest, although I don't live on burger and chips my diet is probably not one of the healthiest! weetabix for breakfast, sandwich for dinner and a cooked tea usually consisting of mash, and some kind of meat.
I miss spaghetti, pastas in tomato and just tomato type food. I decided to avoid them to avoid straining on my brace but I'm not sure how much damage it will do to the colour. I am very wary of having another curry staining incident! Will meatballs in tomato stain it? Xx

Hello there, how are you getting on?
The left hand side of my mouth has settled down - it's just the right hand side now and I can mostly live with that. If the blasted wax would stay on, I'd be fine! I've probably ingested a few calories from eating that. lol.
I, too, was on protein shakes for breakfast; soup for lunch and a home made, unlumpy-as-possible-chilli for dinner. However, I now find I'm not too bad with most things that aren't what you'd call crispy! I managed some slow roast belly pork yesterday and had a medium rare steak with fried egg and asparagus for brunch on Saturday! (I thought I'd go for a challenge!) I find, if I cut it up small and chew slowly, I'm ok. Not a snack in sight...far too much effort.
Oh, and I've lost half a stone (I've a lot to lose)...result...'the braces diet' - who'd-a thunk it?!
Has anyone found a wax that really sticks?

Re: Hi from sunny Somerset!!
well done teeebeee for getting some munch down you. I am pretty much back to normal but can't bite down on my front teeth too hard, so things like crackers and hard chocolate are out (I manage to get through the chocolate barrier by breaking it up and sucking the life out of it!) Lol can't be going without that! I am pretty much back to my normal self, I am used to the metal being there and I have started smiling like a normal person again. I figure I can't exactly hide the brace so I may as well be happy with them I don't think I have lost any weight yet lol if I do I soon make up for it! All I have done today is want to eat!

Re: Hi from sunny Somerset!!
Lost 2 kgs in 2 weeks, the braces diet is quite possibly one of the most effective diets I've ever been on lol
And yes like most of you guys my teeth don't hurt all that bad - I just can't be bothered snacking when I think of the cleaning process after
