How long post SARPE did you get your TOP BRACES on?
I heard people getting them on as early as 45 days and some as late as 90. My orthodontist said a FULL 6 months after the sarpe.... I'd like them on sooner than that. Tell me how long yours took!
Re: How long post SARPE did you get your TOP BRACES on?
I was in the same boat as you. My orthodontist waited 5 months post-SARPE before putting braces on. I had the RPE out before the braces went in. My ortho doesn't like to put braces on only some of the teeth (since the RPE bands block 4 teeth), so he prefers to wait until it's out.
SARPE: December 19, 2013
Expander out/TPA in: May 13th, 2014
Upper and lower braces: May 21, 2014
Lefort I + BSSO + sliding genioplasty: June 11, 2015
Braces off: November 28th, 2016!!!
Braces on again, upper and lower: September 3, 2024

Re: How long post SARPE did you get your TOP BRACES on?
I had a bonded expander, and I have lingual brackets on the top so my experience might be a little different. B/c the expander covered my back teeth on both sides (from the bicuspids all the way back) they couldn't put brackets on those teeth until I had the expander removed. That was about 7 months after surgery.
I did, however, have brackets put on the rest of the top teeth a lot sooner than that b/c they started closing the gap with a power chain almost as soon as I was done expanding. I think that was around a month and a half after surgery.
So, to recap, I had brackets placed on my top incisors, lateral incisors, and canines about a month and a half after surgery. I had brackets placed on the rest of the top teeth about 7 months after surgery.

Re: How long post SARPE did you get your TOP BRACES on?
I'm trying to find an oral surgeon and orthodontist that will allow me to do SARPE with lingual braces. I don't want just anyone who's looking to do the most "cutting edge" techniques to make a buck, I want to find a good ortho I trust. Any suggestions on what questions to ask or where to look? I'm in the Boston area.

Tellmemore, I think the only thing you can do is go for as many consultations as you can and ask the orthos directly if they'll do SARPE with lingual braces. In all my blog/forum reading, I've never seen anyone get SARPE and then have lingual braces, although that doesn't mean it's never been done. It would certainly be less common, though.

Re: How long post SARPE did you get your TOP BRACES on?
To add to my earlier post - there was confusion between orthos - my braces won't go on until the summer .but hey I'm happy with that because I don't feel I could deal with any more metal in my mouth. My expander is such a poor fit they're replacing it (more molds etc) with another one next week, the same but without the screw. A better fit. For a split second I got very excited as I thought he was going to tell me that I could have the TPA put it. Elation was shortlived!! Don't trust anyone who says you get used to it. You don't. Meh.
Re: How long post SARPE did you get your TOP BRACES on?
My top braces were put on 3 weeks after surgery. Basically, after I finished expanding braces were put on. I just had my checkup today and they installed a new thicker top wire and put on power chains to begin closing the gap.

I'm jealous Goku. How strange to want braces so badly! My teeth are coming together at an angle bottoms nearly touching, gap at the top.
Patience, never my strong point

Lucky for you that they are coming together! Mine are basically doing the same with a gap more at the top with a little persuasion from the power chain. How many mm did you end up expanding lalacharlie?

How weird but utterly delightful.
The ortho took out my device, made moulds and gave me a TPA today. Albeit a thicker wire than the ones I've seen in people's blogs but still, a TPA dammit!
I'm on cloud 9 right now as I can actually speak. He reassures me the wire is thick enough to prevent relapse (it's not that long since surgery on March 25th) although I'm a little sceptical.
Other super news is BRACES GO ON NEXT WEEK!!
I had been told in July when the device is removed but they're happy to start now.
whoop whoop!!!!!

Re: How long post SARPE did you get your TOP BRACES on?
Sorry for digging up this "old" post, but it's fascinating to see all the different approach by your orthos!
I'll be getting self-ligating brackets on my top 6 front teeth next month (white or metal, still not sure), 2 months after SARPE. My ortho said we need to wait for the bones to be completely healed to start moving the molars or there could be a risk of collapsing and losing the expansion (yeah, I don't want that happening...) and I'll still have my RPE for another 4 to 5 months after that (she said around 6 months total).
