Hi everyone,

I have now finished treatment and have my retainer fitted. There have been highs and lows throughout the process, but the over riding factor to all of it, is that my teeth look amazing now. It does hurt now and again, and it is very inconvenient now and again, it's seems like it takes for ever and nothing is happening .. But it is so worth it .. Stick with it, don't give up, it really is amazing and the results are fantastic.

xx

Hi All,

I'm back from my hols and I managed to wear the Inman Aligner for most of it, so I'm really pleased, looking forward to my appointment tomorrow with my dentist as I feel they have moved a lot since my last appointment and I need more filing done as there is no more room for them to move now, all my gaps made from filing before have completely closed up.

Only problem I have at this stage is the top tooth that is being brought forward is now almost level with the bottom set of teeth, so when I eat I keep scraping it or catching it on the bottom set, its really annoying and such an odd feeling, little painful too. Hopefully it won't be too much longer and it will be in front of the bottom set when I close my mouth, so it will stop happening.

Hello to all you guys who have joined the forum while I have been away, great to hear from you all and look forward to following your stories. Those that are struggling with it, I totally understand, but please do stick with it, you will be pleased you did when you have a lovely smile at the end :D

Hi, great to hear from someone who has finished their treatment, I am about half way through now and am looking forward to the end. Did you get a fitted retainer at the end of your treatment or a removable one?

So glad you are pleased with your results, I cannot wait to get there! :)

Fantastic that's great to hear you've got to the end, well done! I bet you are so relieved! I'd be interested to know what kind of retainer you went for too...my dentist recommended the permanent wire which I'm thinking I'll go for as I don't want a relapse after all this! Do you mind saying how long you were told it would take, and how long it actually took?

I'm wearing my IA for between 16 - 20 hours a day and am just praying I don't have to wear it any longer than necessary! Thanks x

Hi guys,

I've had my fixed and night time retainer for almost 3 months now and I'm due to go back for a check up. I have moved house since my treatment finished and now would have to fly to go and see my dentist.

Has anyone changed dentist during or shortly after treatment? How as it went for you? I have read in places that you should go back to the same dentist that put in your fixed retainer if it needs repair, is that definite? Thankfully mine doesn't right now.

Thanks for your help.

Hi both, I have the fixed retainer, a wire across the back 6 teeth. I wasn't given a choice as my dentist believes this is the best possible finish to treatment. I am sure there are differing views, but I feel better knowing they are in place and should stay there! x

I have had a long journey, so don't let this put you off. I went last August, and because I have overcrowding and a small mouth, I had to have just the expander for 5 months. I didn't actually get my inman aligner until 15 December 2014. It came off on 20 May 2015 .. A further 5 months. A lot slower than first anticipated .. I thought I would be finished by Christmas !
I had filing every 2 weeks throughout. Speech was terrible, which I found difficult at work, but it was easy enough to pop in and out if necessary.

I am really pleased with the end result, and have already forgotten the time it took to get there. It is so worth it x

sounds like I have the same problem as you, ie, small mouth with overcrowding. there is only one dentist in the toronto area that does the inman treatment so hopefully he is good. How many hours a day did you wear the inman? Since I have meetings every day, it would be nice to be able to take it out for meetings and for occasions. Good to hear that it comes out easily. I am scared to make the first step, but I am also dying to fix my crooked teeth. Glad to hear you say that it was worth it.

Thanks for letting us know which one you have, do you feel it there? Can you speak ok with it in? That is the only thing that puts me off the fixed one, if I cant speak properly. I am really finding it hard to talk with my inman aligner, but I know its not forever so I can put up with it. If I can't speak with the fixed retainer then I may have to go with the removable one instead.

So pleased you are happy with your result, I am already getting excited, I am 8 weeks into my treatment today and I can see a huge improvement already, so exciting! Cannot wait for the end result. :D

Hi All,

Just thought I would post a couple of pics of my progress so far, I'm 8 weeks into my treatment.

I went for a check up yesterday and the dentist is really pleased and has changed my appointments from every 2 weeks, to every week, they are moving quite quickly so he needs to do the filing in between more frequently :D

The set back tooth at the top is now very close to being in front of the bottom set, so exciting! Once its in front of the bottom set, the dentist can reduce the biteplane on the aligner, which will hopefully improve my speech, but even if it doesn't, I can see the end in sight, so I will just put up with sounding like Daffy Duck for a little longer

Thanks very much for explaining! Good questions too JENWALTON01 - I'm interested to know the answers as well! my speech is blooming awful with the IA too, I sound like I've got a massive gobstopper in my mouth all the time! So don't want any if that once I'm done with it....

I'm almost finished my third week of wearing my IA and can't help but count down the weeks now even though I've still got what seems like yonks to go... time is going pretty fast though! I feel guilty for wishing the weeks away a bit!

At my last appointment my dentist didn't do any filing which I'm a bit worried about now as I'm not sure if my teeth are moving anymore. ..guess I just have to trust her! Next appointment in a week so expecting some filing then....eeek!

JENWALTON01 - I can't view your jpegs unfortunately as I've not posted enough replies but I'm sure they look great - do you mind me asking how long your treatment is expected to take? I wish I was at 8 weeks already ;-) x

Hi RuthK, once you have posted a few more times, you'll be able to view pics and send PM's etc. I posted them as I know when I first started, I found it so helpful to see peoples pics, as it gives you reason to continue, reminds you of why you are doing it.

I'm sure you're teeth are still moving, but the first couple of weeks are slow, my dentist told me not to expect anything in the first couple of weeks or so.

My dentist suggested my treatment will take around 12-16 weeks, so I'm thinking worst case 16 weeks, so I am just over halfway now :D Hoping I may be done before then though, but we will see how things move in the next few weeks. Stick with it and keep reminding yourself you'll have a lovely smile by the end of it. I cannot talk with mine in, I sound awful, I was expecting maybe a lisp but I just cannot speak properly at all, very frustrating but gonna stick with it anyway, as I said, its not forever. I've had years and years of not smiling properly in photos and being self conscious about my teeth, so a few months of speaking a bit silly is a small price to pay.x

Jenwalton01 - thanks so much for replying and for your encouraging words. I haven't quite got the hang of this forum yet, not sure how to reply to specific messages by putting them in quotes!

It sounds like you're getting on really well and could be finished ahead of time! I totally feel the same way as you about just getting on with it now despite the discomfort and embarrassing lisp, I've spent so long hating my teeth a few weeks of this is nothing really, it's pretty exciting to know that before the end of this year I'll be proud of my teeth and no longer self concious about them, can't quite believe it!

I was told 14 weeks but to plan for 16, so I'm doing the same as you and thinking of it as a 16 week timescale.

Onwards and upwards hey! :-D x

Hi Nic06,

Welcome to the forum. I didnt have to have an expander so cannot comment on that, but the Inman is great, working really well for me so far. Hope the check up goes well and that you're soon getting the Inman. :D

Hi all, newbie here!

I got my Inman aligner this afternoon. Had some filing which was fine I thought.

The aligner does not seem to be anywhere near as tight as I was expecting.. I'm not feeling any pain on my teeth at all? Also, as I'm unable to bite together with my aligner in, I'm finding my bottom jaw is protruding and is starting to ache already!? Really worried!
