oh ok, thanks shredie79!
Re: Bracing myself at 53!
I have been quietly hanging in there for the past several months. I am still with my fellow braces comrades! Yet, I am getting closer to removal...not there yet. I see my ticker below is incorrect. I can't figure out how to edit that. That ticker was wishful thinking I guess. I had an adjustment at the end of June then took off and traveled for 10 weeks this summer. My lastest adjustment was the last week of August...I was hoping for a date to eat corn on the cob, but it wasn't to be. I have a midlife crisis going on...ok....a MIDLINE not MIDLIFE crisis. The middle teeth are still out of whack! As a result, I indulge in still more time with elastics to make that necessary change. I want to have my smile look perfect for the $ and time and sacrifice I have already made. "I can't wait to wear the 3/16" elastics for another 5 weeks!" exclaimed NO ONE EVER.
Instead of a colorful powerchain to close gaps, the orthodontist used a very thin wire to join the brackets together...twisted over and around each bracket. This last adjustment did not cause pain or discomfort. I did let my doctor know I am ready to get this show on the road...even if painful. I do wish my orthodontist would offer up what he is thinking regarding my treatment. He loves to talk about motorcycles and such....but all I really want to hear about is my progress! I need to be more forward with him next time---October 9th! I just made my last payment (after 17 months) this week so maybe this will motivate my doctor to finish up....he's getting no more pay check from me...heehee.....Here's to another year eating fresh fall apples cut into sections! You with me?!

Re: Bracing myself at 53!
just read your posts - caught my eye as I'm 50 and getting braces on in November - all set to get them, but have to take care of a root canal/crown on a upper molar first. have selected Damon clear on top and metal on bottom based on ortho recommendation. My crowding negated invisilign as an option and looking at 14 months, so not too bad.
I hope you get your braces off soon!

Good luck with your journey! It's been quite a ride for me. I was initially told 15 months but apparently my teeth have a different timetable?! Oh well....I know I am close!
I did not choose to have my crown placed on one of my upper molars until after these braces are removed; why? brackets don't adhere well to the crown, so check with your ortho before your have that dental work done!
I chose metal Damon vs clear 1) price 2) was told clear brackets break apart and make more work come removal time. I am all for ease of removal.

CHECKING IN! For those of you who have followed my story, I am still hanging onto my brackets with you all at this point...I have yet to graduate to the 'naked tooth' or 'retainer' blogs on this site, but I am please to state that while my ticker below is WRONG (I don't know how to remove or edit those) I am finally scheduled for brace release with an official removal date! Yay for me! I go in for retainer impressions on November 6 and the first Friday of December the brackets will be removed!!!
I was hoping to be brace free by my November 15th, 55th birthday, but instead I will be receiving an early Christmas present. Good enough for me! What do you think--do these look ready? Thanks in advance for your honest opinions.

Thank you to everyone for your comments. Particularly nice to hear from those of you who have been there with me since the beginning of my treatment. I'd love to hear how you are all doing with your treatment as well!!!!! Now that the time is drawing near I am tickled to get these things off, but also hesitant that my teeth look 'good enough' or perfect to have them removed. Second guessing time! I hate spending the investment of time and $ if things aren't just right. Anyone relate? I remember reading this sentiment a year ago and vowing I would never write these words, and here I am!?
Re: Bracing myself at 53!
One more day....one day more?!?!?
Is my new lucky number 4?
I had my Damon braces cemented to my teeth on April 4th. Exactly 20 months later, tomorrow December 4th, I have an appointment to have my braces removed!!!!! I am so very excited, but at the same time, feeling nervous! Mentally I am ready...I have had my retainers fabricated and they are ready....but are my teeth ready for a reveal? I don't want to do this prematurely. I wish I could know before scraping the metal off my teeth that the braces have done their magic. Will I be happy? Is the ortho just wanting to get rid of me since my bill is paid? Will I be told to return back another day? STAY TUNED!

50 is the new 15 where braces are concerned!bretthov wrote:just read your posts - caught my eye as I'm 50 and getting braces on in November - all set to get them, but have to take care of a root canal/crown on a upper molar first. have selected Damon clear on top and metal on bottom based on ortho recommendation.
