For me, no matter what I did or how I tried to prepare the food, things still get stuck, and over a period of months I became more tolerant of the feeling that half of any given meal with clinging to the metal in my mouth. I am fairly fastidious, so it was a definite learning curve . I got fairly adept with the one-two punch of manipulating the bigger pieces with my tongue and then sucking them out with the lips closed. Then of course trying to find someplace to brush after the meal.

I can tell you I got pretty tired of food stuck in braces!! I swear by the waterpik but...can't take it with you so we always come home after eating lol...oh well I'm 40 my years fly by these days:-)
Blueberries. Seriously. I put them frozen in my oatmeal in the morning, warm them up and eat the thing. When I brush my teeth afterwards and when I use my waterpik, I swear there's a freaking blueberry forest in my mouth.
Moon Pie. I ate a small one on pie day and had to fill the waterpik 2 times to get all of it off of my teeth and I only have top brackets right now. Never again. Sull
I had to resurrect this thread after discovering the absolute worst food to eat with braces. Broccoli carrot salad with pine nuts, raisins, and poppy seed dressing! What was I thinking??? It took me 10 minutes to clean out all the orange and green bits from my braces, luckily I ate it in my office with no observers .
Braces installed on March 25, 2014: Damon clears on top and metal on bottom. I had braces for 25 months!
I've found that it doesn't matter what I eat...I will floss, rinse with water, rinse with mouthwash AND STILL manage to brush more food out. There have been scenarios where my braces have been nicknamed "Flavor Savers".
Lots of different foods get stuck, but at 10months into this I have to say the absolute WORST, most annoying and frustrating food is a simple sandwich! You know, the kind you make for yourself with regular soft bread for lunch. It is TERRIBLE-- the bread immediately molds itself onto every bracket and then adheres there. I can handle vegetables, fruit, pointy things, but not this all-over encasing of bread. It drives me insane. I'm so ready to have these braces off!

I've really had to give up pork...the fibres just glue themselves to everything. Shame because I love it but, no matter how meltingly I cook it, it just superglues itself to all points!
The weirdest things bust my wires and brackets...eating is a real game of Russian roulette at the moment!
For me things got a lot better when I simply stopped worrying about food getting caught up in the braces. I generally have a toothbrush and paste with me at restaurants so I can make a quick trip to the restroom for temporary repairs. I'm often surprised at how much debris washes out with a waterpik -- seems like half my meal was lodged in various gaps and brackets. I see my ortho tomorrow and am really really hoping he tells me I can get these *&^%%)!! things off.

Soft white bread is definitely a huge pain since it gets stuck everywhere. I've managed to eat a burger twice, but the last time my front teeth hurt for two days afterwards, though I've heard it can take a long time for the front teeth to adjust for some people, so I'm not giving up hope yet. I'm firmly in the "carry my toothbrush everywhere and eat whatever I want" camp. I also carry a wide interdental brush with me for when I don't feel like brushing my teeth - a quick run through and a rinse with water and I'm good to go.
I have a full on kit I take everywhere...probably more put together than the dentakits, which were my inspiration. I'm suprised I haven't lost a ton of weight since only about half of what goes in my mouth actually makes it down the hatch.
