I totally understand the feeling that if I don't immediately brush my teeth after eating they're all immediately going to get cavities. It really effects my mood since I obsess over it (subconsciously) then immediately feel better after I brush my teeth. This feeling has never gotten better after 11 months in braces, but I AM better at eating in such a way that food doesn't get stuck quite so much and it bothers me a bit less when it does.
My test is whether the backsides of my teeth feel smooth on my tongue. If they do, then I'm good. If they don't then I know I didn't brush well enough. It takes me five solid minutes to brush my teeth-- top of the wire, bottom of the wire, top of teeth, back of teeth. Flossing, amazingly, only takes about 1-2 min.

Newbite, the backside test is a good idea. What drives me crazy are the little rough spots of glue around the brackets that never feel like they're clean, even though I've cleaned thoroughly. I can see it is just glue, but it's still strange to get used to.

Extra cleanings at the dentist for me every 3 months no matter how much right you do this is the only thing that has worked for me
