Spacers after I've already had braces?

#1 Post by Melody5 »

So, I was told I'm getting spacers put in, in a month and I've had my braces for several months now. Is this common? Or maybe I misheard them. Thanks for any info on this.

This isn't surprising at all...

I had 3 rounds of spacers. The first round was prior to braces for bands on my first molars. The second round was during treatment because one of my first molars was still too tight to get a band around, so they waited until my first adjustment to add that band. The last time I had spacers was to put bands on my second molars and engage them with the arch wire. Sounds like you're on the road to a bit more hardware.

Oh man, I better get mentally prepared then. Haha. Thank you for the reply.
Also, I got a power chain today so that's really why I was so confused. It was like I was taking a backwards step.

Power chains are definitely a step forward! I have to say, of all the times I had spacers, the third time was definitely the easiest. I had been in braces for 4 months, so my teeth were much more forgiving and willing to move...so much so that I swallowed one spacer and had to floss a different one back in. I think the first round of spacers were the worst because I hadn't had any kind of orthodontic treatment or anything to move my teeth.
