Braces nerves!!

#1 Post by MissBear »

hey all so I'm getting my innovation C braces in just over a week and I am scared! I'm also getting a TAD put in to help my teeth move to fill a big gap. Olive in Australia and haven't found any useful info about TADs and I'm kind of nervous. I'm getting them done on my bday (28th) and have to go to work right after, any advice for me?

Congratulations MissBear! If you search the message boards here you can find several people's experiences with TADs. They're not really a big deal and shouldn't cause you any issues beyond the ordinary adjusting-to-life-with-braces ones.

Since it'll be your birthday, may I suggest treating yourself to an ice cream sundae (hold the nuts) for dinner? As for going back to work, you may have some numbness from the TAD placement that might interfere with your speech, so plan accordingly. Good luck!

Ever have a shot to numb yourself up for a filling? Thats it. Didnt feel nothing on the Tad at all, either going in or after. Just the numbing shot.

Thanks all! I think my biggest worry was work but my mum is making me a big pot of soup for when I go to visit! Also 4 days until I get my braces on and I turn 23! I'm beyond excited, I think I may treat myself to some braces no no foods tonight!

Hi MissBear,

I don't have TAD, so have no thoughts on that, but just wanted to say that I also got braces on my birthday this weekend just gone, and then went straight to a large family bbq after. It was completely fine, I managed to eat without making a fool of myself and people barely noticed until I mentioned it. Just plan for what you'll eat and have a little kit with wax, brushes etc.

Definitely treat yourself..... Good luck! :D

I had inovation C braces 5 years ago. Check out my blog for photos. I don't have experience with TADs. Good luck.

More pain today but I'm trying to eat normally,it does hurt a bit but it feels better after some normal chewing. I have the build up stuff on my teeth to open my bite, it does make chewing a pain in the ass but I got this!

Congrats on getting your braces! Hopefully the pain will lessen quite quickly. Make sure to use your wax if you start to feel any rubbing - it really isnt worth the pain of ulcers and ripped up cheeks to tough it out!

The build ups wear down quite quickly. I'm only just over a week in and mine are barely noticeable now.

I'm quickly using a lot of wax, my braces are so sharp and I was not expecting this :( they don't hurt its just my cheeks rubbing then swelling making it worse! Thinking of getting some of that special mouth wash.

I was surprised how sharp they felt at first also. Try a few salt water rinses, that should heal up any sores you have pretty quickly.

It does get better! I'm not using wax at all now.

Peroxyl will help keep them clean. Whenever I notice rubbing, I try to drink something warm. I don't know why it helps, but it does.
