Hi. Im slightly passed the 6th month mark after my genioplasty. My lower lip used to be completely numb for the first month or so but some sensation returned after the 2nd month. However, the sensation is not 100% the same as pre-op.
My lower lip can feel my finger when i scratch it, the burning sensation when i place a hot spoon against it but coldness from a cold spoon takes some time to sink in to actually feel it. However these sensations on the lower lip feel muted and dull as compared to my upper lip and there is still some feeling of tightness.
I was initially quite elated when these sensations came back during the 2nd month but it has been like this ever since. Does anyone know if its possible to ever regain the full pre-op feeling?

Re: Lower lip sensation after genioplasty
Everybody is different. Some people have no numbness at all, others have numb spots. It's distressing that after 6 months, you're not back to normal, but I've heard it can take up to a full year to go back to normal. Hopefully you'll see more improvement.

Re: Lower lip sensation after genioplasty
Hi, how is the numbness now? for me, I had significant numbness at the six month mark and it took a full year to go away. But then I had to have a revision genio - which I'm almost at the one year mark and I still have significant numbness this time around... I think it will get better but take longer to heal.
Give it time and hang in there
