Braces and our significant others?
Hey everyone!
I just read an interesting post that brought up Braces and significant others.
I thought it would be an interesting topic?
How has braces affected your personal relationships?
Personally, my fiance and I have been together 6 years and he tries to stay as "interested" as possible in my braces journey. He's happy to hear about my tightenings and tries as hard as he can to focus when I ramble about braces topics. HAHA.
What about you?

Re: Braces and our significant others?
My boyfriend encouraged me to get braces before we even started dating. A little over a year later, he is working to get his braces started too.
Re: Braces and our significant others?
You two are fortunate to have a s/o that is involved in your braces journey.

My husband has a bit of a dental phobia but he's still great when it comes to my braces. He doesn't understand why I take so long in the bathroom any more, but he's certainly happy that I'm feeling more confident and happy with my teeth.

Yes, one of life's great mysteries, best left unexplored .angelina wrote:My husband has a bit of a dental phobia but he's still great when it comes to my braces. I had the complete support of my SO, Kipepeo, who didn't seem to mind (much) my whining about the many things that annoyed me about braces.
For those of you with insensitive partners, do you think braces have exacerbated underlying relationship issues or is it one of those things that your SO just doesn't understand because he/she has not walked this particular journey?

I believe braces is just not a subject that interests my BF. He has perfect teeth and never had braces as a teen. Does he sound selfish? Yes, I let him know plenty! I wish that he'd take a little more interest, but I also do understand that if something doesn't interest someone, it just won't.

I'm certainly not curious about why he takes so long in the bathroom! I know it has nothing to do with his teethdjspeece wrote:Yes, one of life's great mysteries, best left unexplored .angelina wrote:My husband has a bit of a dental phobia but he's still great when it comes to my braces. Re: Braces and our significant others?
he doesn't mind! he finds my braces cute. he is bored because i talk all the time and i make him look at my gaps five times a day i show him my gaps even in the train and he gets very embarrassed
he is always teasing me that he has a perfect smile but now that i have an internet degree in orthodontics i announced him that he has a deep bite and worn teeth. he doesn't seem to accept it because a dentist, 20 years ago told him that his smile is like a rainbow
he liked very much my protruding teeth and tells me that he fell in love with those crooked, protruding teeth, but i am sure he will love my new smile too!
i once had a boyfriend (who i loved very much) that had threatened me that if i got braces he would break up with me. i was considering getting braces then, didn't have the money though. he knew very well that my teeth always affected my whole life, that kind of people doesn't have a place in my life anymore.

Lol honestly, he couldn't really care less! Not in a nasty way, but he's just not that fussed! But he is looking forward to me getting them off as he has promised me food and I have promised him "something" that I don't feel comfortable doing with a mouth full of sharp metal lol! X

Re: Braces and our significant others?
Good topic.
As an older couple, I gave a lot of thought to my husband and what he would think of having a wife with braces at my age.
He has turned out to be my best supporter. He was thoroughly accepting and encouraging because he knew how much it bothered me.
He loves inspecting my teeth and wants to know what is happening at every appointment. He wishes I would ask more questions. Loved looking at how my teeth were getting straighter and now looking at how my gaps are closing.
Yes, it does take a long time in the bathroom. I just laugh and say "it's time for my dental hygiene."

Lol Metaphorically speaking, that promise of yours...does it involve a talent eating a certain long yellow fruit that needs to be peeled? Girlfriend...you can still with a metal mouth...just have to be very creative! My BF's biggest worry was me no longer being able to eat that fruit, but I showed my talent was still there!ditsy wrote:Lol honestly, he couldn't really care less! Hope this doesn't get flagged!

I think linguals would be something to worry about. Other than that, go to town.metalliKa wrote:Lol Metaphorically speaking, that promise of yours...does it involve a talent eating a certain long yellow fruit that needs to be peeled? Re: Braces and our significant others?
That's reassuring!! I am assuming a lot of wax to be on the safe side?? I was worried about even attempting to kiss after my braces went on; thank goodness it was not as awkward as I thought it was going to be and it certainly helps that my man isn't bothered one bit by the braces. I'm only 19 days into 30+ months, but glad to know fruit can go back in the diet!
Re: Braces and our significant others?
*snort*! Lol yeh bananas!!!!! Well I'm just a bit more careful, I don't want to surprise circumcise him lol!
