I know they are temporary, but they just built them back up at my adjustment and my bite is so far open (anyerior open bite) im worried i will need those stupid bite turbos for another 6+ monthsrainbowcatcher wrote:Tyrantblade wrote:The thing ive hated the most constantly since i got braces is the bite turbos
At first i hated how they stopped my only teeth that used to touch from touching, i know its for a good reason and just thought its only temporary and stopped getting annoyed by them so much
Well eventually they wore down and my bite got more comfortable, even though still way off (still quite early in treatment) so i felt good with how things were going
Well at my first adjustment they built them back up, now i so hate them again and im wondering how much longer they will keep building them back up
I know the answer is it varies, but im not in a hurry to get my braces off, i would be so happy just to not need the bite turbos anymore
Bite Turbos are temporary. They are usually removed after a few months...

The braces.... haha...
So far I haven't been through anything really bad, I don't have bite turbos, no extractions, no spacers. For me the worst part is the braces themselves. So, not bad at all.

I'm finding the bite blocks/cement wearing down so fast the most frustrating part. I'm so anxious about it, it drives me crazy. Better the annoyance with eating than teeth coming into contact with brackets. I have both cement build ups on my molars and turbos on the back of my front teeth.
Re: what do/did you hate the most at parts of your treatment?
Expander for SARPE procedure. Food gets caught in it. Didn't fit right and one side was digging into my hard palate which resolved once turning was done. Now it moved some and is digging in hard palate in back of mouth. Also one of back bands was falling off and ortho had to rig it some since taking out would b a big deal. Can not wait till its out!!!
Re: what do/did you hate the most at parts of your treatment?
As the treatment has changed, I have had several things that I hate:
1. Originally, I had a carriere' with elastics pulling my teeth on one side. I hated the carriere' - it rubbed badly on my inside, upper cheek. I spent the whole 4 months with a wad of wax covering it - because of the constant irritation.
2. Once that was behind me - the back bands. I had bands on the next to last molars. Now I also have them on the 4 back molars. Those things are waaaaay back there! They are hard to reach and the wire pokes me and the bracket/hooks poke me...I am now at a point where I'm not having to wear wax ALL the time but near the end of the day, I'm sore and brush and water pick and put my wax on....along with my elastics.
3. My elastics - I have a love hate relationship with them. I like the way my bite is beginning to feel with the elastics. Helps me feel my upper and lower teeth matching (I was distressed about my bite). So I love that part but I hate the end of the time I've been wearing them - they rub inside my cheek at two points - and it has no way to cover with wax.
But what do I love? I love the look of my teeth! Behind my braces, they are looking great.

The Forsus appliance...horrible...
Re: what do/did you hate the most at parts of your treatment?
Having them put on was downright traumatic for me. I freak out at dental and medical things at the best of times, but this was something else! They put this round thing around my mouth to suck any saliva to keep my teeth dry and a clip around my tongue to stop it touching my teeth and getting them wet. The tech asked if I was ok and I shook my head no, then she said can you stand it for twenty minutes and I thought well I'm going to have to or I'm not getting my braces on. Cue 20 minutes of tears dripping down my face because of the pain in my tongue. It was a torture device and my tongue hurt far more than the braces for the first week that's how bad it was. I am totally freaking out that they might put that weird thing over my mouth again when I have them taken off
People who haven't had their braces put on yet don't freak out, I think something went wrong in my case because there were kids and teens in the other rooms I walked past at the ortho and they walked out just fine.

The expander is a pain! I'm mostly used to it after having it in for 8 months now, but food gets stuck in it. For example, edamame--took me forever to get enough "suction" to get the edamame out from above the expander, then practically choked on the bean when it did get dislodged.
Re: what do/did you hate the most at parts of your treatment?
I had bite pillows/molar buildups (not the kind that are placed on the back of your incisors, but the kind that are placed on top of your lower first molars) since the beginning of treatment, they were just removed at my last appointment on Wednesday. (I'm 4 months in) I honestly didn't mind them that much; though my orthodontist messed up & kept them on too long, so they gave me a slight posterior open bite (it's nothing the braces can't fix though). I'm now wearing elastics at night to closed the anterior open bite, and I hate them. They're the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I've been wearing elastics since 3 months into treatment, but this particular position is much more painful than my last one. Not to mention, it makes it feel like I'm wearing a muzzle! Glad she only told me to wear them at night; its impossible to yawn and talk properly with those damn things. So yeah, definitely the worst part is elastics. When I woke up this morning, i attempted to yawn & one of them snapped. I didn't care lol, just took the other one out and said "less pain for me!" I currently have a power chain on my four upper central incisors. Though they hurt, they're nothing compared to the elastics. i'm still unable to bite into food because of them, but the pain is slowly dying down. At least my teeth will be pretty at the end.

I got braces fitted today and wasn't expecting molar build ups. I thought I did a lot of reading about braces before going for it but must have missed this. Just eaten my first meal with them on and it was so hard to eat!
Re: what do/did you hate the most at parts of your treatment?
It gets better, I promise! I've had my molar buildups for 7 months and they took a lot of getting used to in the beginning -- but I've been eating pretty normally for most of my treatment. This is so true, though for me its not just molar buildups/bite turbos that can make eating a bit annoyingItsFreyja wrote:It gets better, I promise! Sometimes its just a tooth or a few teeth that get so painful i cant use them until the pain goes away or moves to another area of my mouth

Definitely the elastics… wearing them during the day meant I couldn't open my mouth properly to talk so people found it difficult to understand me and they made me spit sometimes however I wouldn't change wearing them if that's what was needed
