Top braces on today!
Hi. I am new to the board and braces. I am 43 and got radiance braces on the top today. It will be a couple months before the bottoms go on. I am a little sore and having trouble eating. It feels so weird to eat! It also felt strange when I brushed my teeth for the first time with the braces.
So glad I found this board

I went in for my first adjustment today. I am feeling a little sore but not too bad....yet. They left the same wire in and just changed my ligatures. Next appointment is in 5 weeks.

You might be in the same wire for a while in the beginning, so those appointments will be quick. For me, they were very painful in the beginning but I got used to it.
Re: Top braces on today!
I also found my first adjustment a little uncomfortable. The tool they use to put the ligatures on makes a clunking crunchy noise/feeling in my mouth. I felt like my Teeth were going to break.Felina Grimm wrote:You might be in the same wire for a while in the beginning, so those appointments will be quick. I remember my first adjustment as being uncomfortable as well. After the wire was detached, my ortho manually moved my lower front teeth trying to make room for them. You know that feeling when you were younger wiggling a loose tooth? I thought my teeth were gonna fall off! Fortunately, they didn't but my gum was a little sore after. When I returned home, I looked in the mirror and was surprised to see my bottom teeth straighter than the day before!braced43 wrote:I also found my first adjustment a little uncomfortable. Re: Top braces on today!
I had my second adjustment on Wednesday. They changed my wire to a thicker one and connected it to the last molar on the top. My teeth are feeling a little sore but not too bad. What is weird and different is the back tooth that was brought into the wire feels weird when I bite. It gives a zing every once in a while when I bite or when I am talking and my teeth touch. I am guessing that my teeth have shifted and my bite or a little off now. Any one else experience this? Also I am getting my bottom braces placed at my next appointment in January.

It's perfectly normal to feel your teeth pop, make noises or touch where it'll make your bite feels off. All kinds of weird things will be going on inside your month in the early part of your treatment. There are times you may even think your teeth are falling off. Don't be alarmed. Like you said, your teeth have shifted.braced43 wrote:I had my second adjustment on Wednesday. They changed my wire to a thicker one and connected it to the last molar on the top. Re: Top braces on today!
Hello! Just had my upper and lower ceramic braces fitted this afternoon. I'm 30 and I'm really anxious to find out what people say about them, especially at work! Just had my first meal with them on and it feels terrible! It was my main concern about getting braces and it's actually harder to eat than I thought it would be, so much food gets stuck. Hopefully I'll get used to it. The orthodontist put some glue at the back of my teeth to stop my overbite knocking off the bottom brackets but it feels so weird, like I just need to clean food out of them but can't. I haven't had any pain yet which is good but I've noticed a few small cuts on my bottom lip start to appear.
Loving hearing everyones stories on here though. I don't know anyone else who's had braces as an adult so it's really useful!

Welcome to the club! Eating is a challenge at first but it gets easier as you become more comfortable. As for what people at work will think...they probably won't notice and if they do, most won't mention it. I work in a professional office and no one has said a word about my braces and it has been over 2 months!chrisgemini1985 wrote:Hello! Just had my upper and lower ceramic braces fitted this afternoon. Well I went to work today and hardly anyone said anything. I had to point it out to some ppl! Others I felt like they probably noticed but didn't care enough or were too polite to comment!

Re: Top braces on today
It will feel so odd at the start! I am an adult with with braces and most people don't comment - those who do are interested in themselves getting braces! I find dental wax, Vaseline and even painkillers can be so helpful especially in the first days after an adjustment. Good luck!
Re: Top braces on today!
I got my bottom braces on this past Wednesday. I was finally used to the tops and able to eat pretty much anything, but now I am back to soft foods. My lips are a little sore from the brackets rubbing but otherwise it's okay so far. My top teeth moved pretty quick so I am excited to see some movement on the bottom.
