6 Month Smiles braces going on next weekend

#1 Post by golfgirl »

Goodness, I'm nervous!

Nervous about my braces being fitted next weekend.
Nervous that I've posted in the wrong forum.
Nervous that I've posted in the wrong *place* in this forum.
Nervous about the rules (you *must* post within 12 hours).
Nervous that I'm going to get a message from a cross admin about *something* I've done wrong. :-/

Well, here goes nothing!

I've done loads of research, and I think I'm prepared for my 6 Month Smile journey. I have quite a few questions, but the most pressing is this:

If a bracket detaches from your tooth, how does the dentist know exactly where to put it back? Does he/she peer at the tooth to see where the glue-patch is?

They put it back on where they think it should go. Most use tools to make sure its at the right angle, and position based on where they want to move the tooth.

Why do they call it 6 month smiles when a lot of the time it takes more than six months? Just something I've always wondered. Is your estimate six months or more?

Marketing gimmick, they like to promise "a better smile before your next cleaning" which is typically 6 months apart as everybody is supposed to get cleanings done at their dentist twice a year

I sincerely hope if anybody is being treated by an orthodontist who uses any of the "fast braces" systems that their orthodontist is being realistic with how long it will take, not rushing to be done right after 6 months; as has been said before, there is no difference "hardware" wise between "fast braces" and "regular braces", it's just a different approach, and I don't think there are many people out there that can have the best, most stable result, after only 6 months
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

Hi!

Mine are going on on Thursday! I have been told my case will take more like 9 months.

I share your nervousness! I swing between excitement, regret and fear!

We could be 6ms buddies!

What a great idea!

I've not been told how long mine will take. Hopefully she'll give me an idea on Saturday.

I'm crossing my fingers that they'll be off for my birthday in September.

Dreading it and am excited, all at the same time!

Tomorrow I start my fastbraces at 53. The dentist said it will take around 7 months. Tomorrow he will put the braces on the top 4 front teeth then the rest will be put on at the next visit. I am so nervous but excited at the same time.

That's what I keep hearing. I have always hated how my teeth look and I've noticed more adults my age are getting braces so I decided to finally do it. I am so excited, scared and nervous for tomorrow to get here. I have always been so afraid of the dentist until I found a great dentist that helped me get over my fear.

I got the braces on the 4 front upper teeth this afternoon and get the rest on in 3 weeks. So far so good. Just feels weird and tight but so far no pain. I was so nervous for nothing. I'm sure when they do the rest I will probably feel quite different. Lol

Well done!!!

How did it feel when they put the whole unit on, and then pulled it off leaving the brackets in place? I'm worried it's going to feel as though my teeth are going to be pulled out!

Do they put glue all over your teeth first?

Is your speech affected at all?

They cleaned my teeth first then put a little bit of glue on but not on the whole tooth. Then they put each bracket on then cured them with a light to each bracket. You don't feel anything until they put the wire in and tighten it with the ligatures. So far still no pain but I did put some wax on the brackets because they were rubbing on the inside of my lips. It is quite uncomfortable when they have your lips all spread out but because they only did 4 it wasn't to bad. Now next visit they will do the rest on the top and the bottom, so I imagine it will be a little more pain and discomfort. But I am so glad I made the decision to do it.
