My brace seems to be fitted strangely!

#1 Post by Welshrarebit »

Hi,
I had my fixed brace fitted on Tues. Ceramic upper, metal lower.
The brackets of the lower brace are fitted to the centre of the teeth. On my upper brace, however, the brackets are fitted very low down, at the base of the teeth.
I've never seen a brace fitted like this before! I asked the ortho and she said it's to help the teeth move up and back. I'm a bit confused - has anyone else got a brace like this?!

Maybe the teeth that the brackets are attached lower down on are too long and so need pushing back up slightly in order to be correctly aligned with the rest?

The position of the brackets can be done strategically to help achieve specific movements. If closer to the biting surface, this can sometimes help intrude the teeth if the others are relatively closer to the gum line. Best to speak to your doctor if you have any questions about this. Good luck!

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I don't think they seem longer than the rest but I do trust that this must be a deliberate strategic decision on the ortho's part. I did try asking her but I didn't understand her response. The brace is to correct an overjet of the teeth each side of the brace.
I'd post a picture but I don't have the website privileges to do that yet.
As soon as I do I will, and then maybe you can see what's going on and be able to reassure me!
Thanks again.
