Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?

I got my braces in the beginning of this year. I am currently 20 years old.

I got them on when I was 10, but they relapsed because the orthondontist basically didn't "catch" my open bite. I think he just didn't care about his patients and cared more about the money

Ditto.

I have overheard surgeons at other facilities insist that after orthognatic surgery and braces, with a proper bite, the tongue will rest on the bony ridge of the palate. This does happen sometime but it's no guarantee.

Are you planning on being retreated? What are your symptoms?

I know I have an open bite and severe overjet/overbite.

Have been lurking this forums obsessively trying to see people's experiences in having these bites treated non-surgically. It's frustrating to consider braces again in your 20s and observing how everyone else's teen ortho treatments had no problems.

My brace is also a birthday present to myself - my 50th (in a few months. I'm hoping it'll be off by then)! I had no real problems, just a naughty little top upper-left "fang-type" incisor that overlapped my front tooth a little. It had been getting worse and worse over the last 20 years so I decided to treat myself.

I got mine on just after turning 31! Parents couldn't afford it, so I got to pay for it myself. I constantly tell my husband it's probably better this way as I'm appreciating the journey, probably wouldn't have if I got them younger.

At age 60, when I first got them my Orthodonist told me I would have to wear them for 20 months, I had to wear them only 12 months. Now I have the retainer

I got braces at 18 after years of thinking we'd never be able to afford them, a local orthodontist was donated 1000 dollars by a local family. The orthodontist matched that and chose one person to recieve it so they could begin treatment. My teeth were so jacked up & we were so poor that they chose me. It really was a miracle.
