Snacks for road trip?

#1 Post by Nolaterals »

I'm newly braced and about to go on a weeklong road trip. I'm used to bringing cashews, peanut butter pretzels, etc. to snack on, and I'm having a hard time coming up with soft, portable snacks I can take instead. I'd appreciate any suggestions!

I would bring water so you can swish/drink between snacks. Maybe cut up fruit? Cheese? Make some type of slice to take?

Yogurt, pudding cups, cheese, cubed melon, grapes. Bite sized chocolate for the sweet tooth. I'm taking a weekend trip soon so this conversation is timely. We're trying to pack enough stuff for the 5 hour drive so we don't have to waste time stopping for meals.
Braces for 18 months/4 days.

Luckily for you, snacks, especially those with little to no nutritional value, are one of my main areas of expertise :) . For crunchiness and saltiness, consider potato chips although smaller-sized pretzels would probably work as well, perhaps you could dip them into an open jar of peanut butter (assuming you aren't driving at that point). Another wonderfully decadent snack are goldfish crackers -- those cheddar-cheese tasting things that really should require a prescription. Strawberry twizzlers are excellent as well -- you can even suck on them if you are afraid of getting them ensnared on your braces. And of course, chocolate in any form.
Hey, I never claimed to be a good influence.

Good suggestions above but they missed a crucial one, IMHO. Soft-baked cookies!!

Take like soft foods like doughnuts, pudding, jello, sugar free gum. Depending on how sore your mouth is you could take crackers and chips but I would definitely bring water.

Thank you for all the suggestions- I'm making a list! I feel a lot better now. I'm going on the trip with my parents (I'm married, but I'm off in the summer and my husband has to work, so I always take a trip with them.). I'm a three square meals kinda gal but they never want to eat lunch if they've had breakfast, so snacks are a must!

I got my braces on in the beginning of this past November. I was taking a certain college course which involved me being outside for 6.5 hours, in the woods. I also had a weekend long trip to take, that VERY weekend so I was SORE! I had instant Mac and cheese you can just add hot water to, cups of pudding, jello, even cups of peanut butter now. If you're fresh into the braces, there's a lot of soft prepackaged things you can take. If you're not too tender, tearing or breaking food and putting it into your mouth to chew (incase biting hurts) is good to do with a lot. And GOLDFISH crackers! Not only my favorite anyway, but very yummy and small enough! Hope you're not too fresh into your braces and are going camping right after getting them on! I just got some elastics to start wearing to help pull gaps closed, and it feels like I've just got them on (maybe not as bad though!;P)

GOOD LUCK!!!

I actually think potato chips are the hardest to deal with especially kettle ones.

Unless you are sore, I would just bring whatever you want. Bring bottles of water, and some plackers angled interproximal brushes, and just brush your teeth when you can. You can even spit into an empty water bottle.

Also, I use a waterpik, but am tempted to buy a battery portable one.

I also chew sugarless gum after I swish and angle brush, which helps a little too.

Im shocked nobody said bananas....

Had to Google "goldfish crackers" :D they're like our version of "fish'n'chips" snacks. Ours come in salt and vinegar so strong that it makes your lips go numb...but they are so yummy!

Drinking water will for sure help keep the urge to snack at bay but will increase the amount of rest stops. :)
