Just took the plunge...

#1 Post by objectinspace »

I was braced an hour ago! I'm 23 and have known I've needed braces forever but it wasn't too difficult to keep putting it off. I was worried sick this morning and the night before but all that stress disappeared once I saw them for the first time in the mirror. They don't look nearly as bad as I had thought, I still look like me, and conquering this fear made it all worth while. Plus in 2 years I get a new smile!

Great news, congratulations! :)

At first you'll be counting every single day in braces... then weeks... then you'll have trouble remembering how many months you are into treatment... and then they will be off, sooner than you might think :)
99 weeks in braces (4 Dec 2003 - 27 Oct 2005)

It is so wonderful to hear about your experience and thoughts, objectinspace!

When you said:

It hit me like a ton of bricks!!

I am 23 as well and I am getting top and bottom put on the 31st of October--and I am afriad when I get out of the chair and look in the mirror, I am going to burst into tears. I am so glad that you said it was not as bad as you thought it would be..and that you still look like you!

You are an ispiration for me and I will think about you when I look in the mirror for the first time post-braces. THANKS SO MUCH!
