@UltraViolet Thanks for the response! Yes I'm going every 10 days basically on the dot. It's been tough making appointment times because of work and I commute. But my docs office is open late most months of the year. Pain wise it normally only bothers me the first 3-4 days after tightening. None of the times I got it tightened so far have hurt as much as the first time, not sure if that's good or bad :/ When I went in last Thursday I was told I'm on the last link already. Don't have any idea how that's possible already.. Maybe they weren't too high up or something. But I'm a little bummed out because when the doctor looked in my mouth he told the technician right in front of me "I want X-rays next visit, I think that tooth might be ankyloose because of the buldging." And then he just walked away. So I couldn't ask anything. I'm just so confused because my canines have literally only been activated for 1 month. I was told this is a long process and everything I've read tells me so too. Yet they're acting surprised I'm not farther along. And the "buldging that I have is buldging of the gum right where the tooth is trying to break threw. I would have thought that was a good thing as well! I'm just so confused and honestly felt so depressed thinking my teeth could be fused. I think it was pretty wrong of him to through that word out there so lightly without knowing anything for sure especially this soon. Now I have to wait till next Tuesday to get the X-ray to see how well they've moved so far.

On a brighter note it sounds like you're teeth are moving a lot of links! That's great!! I'm sure it keeps you motivated! How many links did you have when you started? And how far into this are you? It's so interesting hearing others stories and the different strategies orthos use in this process.

Has anyone else experienced some buldging over the area the tooth is at on the roof of your mouth?

Oh wow!

Braceyourself7 you are on the last link already after 1 month! That's impressive!

I also got my exposure surgery mid of June, but got it activated on the 11th of July. So both my teeth are still a little far away. One is actually still quite near the top of the gums but the other seems halfway down but not yet quite exposed. I think two more tightening sessions will have the nearest one out and the other one might need double that time.

I was also told it was a lengthy process so I am expecting results after a year at least. Especially given that I am 28 right now, my teeth certainly won't move as fast as a teenagers.

I have the same bulging that you have though! I thought that was good too? And my ortho didn't say anything negative about it. When it breaks through it gives room to attach a bracket and thats when the process speeds up! I think the bulging is good actually.

Good Luck on Tuesday! Ask a lot of questions and don't let him leave. I am sort of an introvert but I muster up all my courage and ask questions when I see my Ortho. Luckily she is female so that makes it easier for me

Just had my exposure done 2 days ago so I'm here to read about your journeys. I'm a little afraid of how much it will hurt to get tension put on to pull the tooth down....surgery sucked but I'm excited to have a proper even smile. I've been in braces for just about a year now. ...I'm hoping my tooth comes down fairly easily and quickly. ...so done with this whole process. How long was it before most of you saw movement?

Hi all, is it common to do your impacted canine extraction before putting on braces?

West- I think it depends on if you need space made where the impacted tooth is. Some have it before braces and others, like me, have to wait 2-6 months until there is space to bring the impacted tooth into

Got my chain tightened about 10 hours ago. My Ortho says they moved about 4 chains (I have the tiny gold chains not the large ones) but she feels they are moving too slow so we used a more aggressive approach which is the 'Piggy Back' approach. It hurts like hell but I took some pain killers and l should be fine.

In the afternoon I could feel slight popping around the area my tooth is located, I wonder if that is the tooth moving...

Hey... Has anyone ever had an upset stomach after tightening? I can feel myself getting sick and I haven't eaten anything that would cause that, I wonder if it is related.
Hello All!

I have been on braces for 2 months already and am due next month to have my baby teeth extracted, canines exposed and chains put on them. SO SCARED about the whole process...ufff

I was wondering how many people out here are currently on braces for the same treatment--impacted canines, with a chain to pull down. Leave a quick post if so...

Cheers to all and good look on getting those teeth down ;)
Well ,I do have an impacted molar, although not canine, I still know how it feels, and it has effected my whole mouth. My teeth are slightly slanted down to the left because of it.

Ultraviolet, the stomach ache is possibly from painkillers, that is a common reaction depending what you took.

Thank you! I think you were right @satinythrasher, I am feeling much better now and don't need the painkillers although I can still feel a lot of pressure. I am not extremely sensitive to pain so I can do without them...

I'm glad that there are many sharing their experiences on impacted canine. I've started my own journey on 1st Oct where I had my baby canine extracted and adult canine exposed. I had to put in a TAD as well. Within that week itself, I had my braces for my upper teeth put in and had a power chain used to pull down the adult canine, attached to the coil. I see most of you using gold chain/or a sturdier looking chain. Currently, the TAD isn't used at all. We shall see how it goes. My orthodontist said that it will be a while to track down my adult canine. He tried to sound hopeful but wasn't convincing enough.

Putting in the lower braces next month though, mainly to solve my crowding issues. Since I'm already paying so much, why not just solve all the issues I have.

Hopefully things will go smoothly.

Good luck mailove!

And I agree with getting everything sorted out as the teeth come down. I have/had an overjet and spaces now they are barely recognisable.

Is there any progress yet? I haven't heard of this technique you are using but power chains worked fast for me when closing my gaps so expect progress I guess.

Thanks for the wishes!

Just had my appointment yesterday for adjustments and put in the bottom row. My orthodontist didn't say much about my impacted canine but he did replace the power chain that he placed previously. Instead of hooking it onto the spring, he attached the exposed canine to my molar tube so the tension is much greater now. Perhaps, that might help speed things along.

He did say all is looking good at the moment. If there are any updates, I'll post it up! :)

Just got back from my final adjustment for the year. Today was quite painful my teeth are becoming so sensitive from all the movement.

I am glad both of my canines are moving... I really was not expecting them to move this fast because of all the stories I had read about adult canines needing to be removed because they refused to come down. But I am only left with about 2.5 links to expose the final link! I am optimistic that each tooth will be poking out by Christmas latest end of the year

One incisor tooth is beginning to shift and create a gap but my Orthodontist did not seem worried about it. I will probably need another power chain when my canines come down because I have quite big gaps on both sides either way.

Hope everyone is okay and satisfied with their treatment

Hi guys,

Was wondering if any of you with impacted canines has had sensitivity when taking cold food/drinks?

My impacted canine has pretty much made its way to the archwire, and recently I've been experiencing a painful, stinging sensation whenever it comes into contact with cold drinks...hopefully it's just a temporary getting used to being out of the gum phase and not something permanent :(

9th December!!!!!!! That's it!!! That's when they are coming off! I'm so happy, and it was an awesome suprise that they managed to squeeze me in before Christmas! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh so excited!!

Sadiered- I think it's pretty normal for them to be sensitive for a while till they get use to being out in the open, I would buy some sensitive teeth toothpaste and see if that improves it xx
