Hello. Braces on 6 months ago for correction of anterior open bite . Wondering how many others have open bite and if so have they see much improvement in 6 months??
My teeth seem to be moving so slow :-(

Re: Open bite
I started treatment with an anterior open bite, a crossbite and a few other problems, my crossbite was only on a few teeth and got fixed after a few months of elastics, my open bite started closing and feeling more normal not too long after that, around the 8 or 9 month mark my open bite seemed 80% corrected, and now that I'm past a year it seem like my case is 95% corrected with another year estimated treatment time; which I'm fine with because it has been over 10 years since I heard that I needed braces, until I could afford them myself, so 2 years is nothing.
Hold on, no doubt some progress is happening and in a few months things should be so much better, it seems to be something that happens in steps, and eventually when you add enough of the steps together things will seem to be going smoother and faster; for me it came after a bunch of elastics configurations to help move my teeth to the right position without being crooked or tilted, and then my bite started closing pretty noticeably (again with more elastics, I've had elastics since day one, but now I only need 1 for my midlines at night).

Lots of crimes here
1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars
2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29
3. Open bite
4. Upper midline left of center
5. Lower midline right of center
6. Upper and lower teeth not straight
Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.
Braces removed since 11/06/17

Re: Open bite
2mm anterior open bite here. I started my journey only 6 weeks ago. Obviously not much time to notice any major differences. If anything, my open bite has increased since getting the braces on! I don't have a good explanation for that, but I'm not worried since they quote 18 months of braces for me and I've only just begun. In fact, I just got TADs placed and had them anchored to my upper molar bands yesterday, so hoping to see some progress in the coming weeks/months.
Sorry I can't be of more help! Just hang in there and trust that things should improve soon.

Re: Open bite
Pretty sure that happened to me as well. After that, with molar intrusion the progress kind of creeps up on you and then one day you say "wow, look at that overbite".HummerMan3 wrote:If anything, my open bite has increased since getting the braces on! I don't have a good explanation for that
Re: Open bite
Almost coming up to 2 years for my open bite. I had a pretty severe open bite (8-9 mm), with some crowding. My ortho tried TADs for about 10 months before we decided it wasn't working at all. Got 4 teeth extracted about a year ago and it's been going pretty well. Bite is pretty much closed (maybe it can be overcorrected a little more) and I have about a 2-3 mm overjet that is currently being corrected (I still have 2-3 mm of premolar maxillary extraction gaps, although mandibular spaces are closed). He gave me an estimate of about 3-4 months remaining for my treatment.
I'm hopeful that since we haven't had to use elastics so far that I'll have better luck with retention, but we'll see how it'll end up a few years down the road. I had braces as a kid (15+ years ago) and my open bite could not be corrected then. I always was told I would need double jaw surgery to correct my bite from the various consults in the past, but my current orthodontist wanted to try it without (although the TADs failed, it all worked out).
