Really slow progress

#1 Post by anacsilva »

Hey guys,

So I got partial top braces on February 21st, and it's currently August and I still don't have full top braces. Let me show you:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7SRm ... VlnY29uNHM

So you can see the problem. He won't put full top braces until that little sucker in the last picture is straight. At first I just got regular partial top braces, in May I got a springer, in June I got regular again, in July I got the springer again, and now in August (which was when he said he would complete my top braces) he kept the springer and attached a really really painful wire between the bracket and the springer to bring the tooth forward without losing the space gained by the springer.

My lip is all cut and bloody. I thought we were done with the bleeding and swelling up part

Anyway, what I wanted to ask is: is this normal? I mean... really?

Thanks

Top braces (front and left side): February 21st, 2016
Top braces (full): ...... it was supposed to be a month later
Bottom braces: probably never, at this speed!

Have you ever thought consulting another orthodontist for a second opinion? I see on this forum that people see changes at 1-3 months, but you're knocking at 6 months? I feel your pain with the cutting and swelling, but I cannot even imagine the extent in your case with your appliances!

Your case doesn't seem "typical", but you should express your concerns with your Orthodontist first and maybe seek a second opinion if things aren't going better later on.
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

I HAVE seen progress, when I smiled there were only 4 teeth visible (because of the bite) and now I have almost 8! I definitely have progress.

Anyway, the tooth in question has already come forward a bit so I'm hopeful that in my next appointment he'll finally connect the remaining two teeth (the worse ones lol) and this other tooth will finally straighten out. I really didn't have enough space for it :)

Maybe it's just a stubborn tooth.

I know this probably sounds silly, but are you taking any pain meds at all? My orthodontist says to only take Tylenol because ibuprofen (Advil), naproxen (aleve), and aspirin will actually slow your progress.

Nope, no medication at all.

I had pain from the cuts, so I just use wax :) the tooth has come a little forward though, so I'm hopeful next month I'll get the spring off
