I had my top braces placed about 5 weeks ago and the bottom ones placed on Friday. Still really struggling with the bottoms. Good Luck :)
Thank you! Hope you're having an easier time with the bottoms - good luck! :)

Keep updating! It's so exciting! :D
Thank you! :) It's almost unbelievable that my teeth have moved so much, I'm not used to seeing myself with teeth like this, haha. I almost have to keep staring at myself to believer that they're real LOL.

It's been just about 2 weeks since my last adjustment, but I'm finally posting an update here. My progress has slowed a bit, so I'm a little less motivated and have been lazy. :) I am still very excited and thrilled with the progress that I've had so far, and I can still see/feel things still definitely moving, but it hasn't been as fast or noticeable as the first few months. Still have gaps to close up so at least I still have something to look forward to!

I am back on elastics on the right side. They added a hook to the bracket on my bottom lateral incisor to create more tension on them. Of course, this was painful the first 3 days or so, but not nearly as much as those first few days the first time in rubber bands. They gave me the option of just wearing it to the canine during the day, and wearing them in the new position only at night, but for the sake of progress, I toughed it out.

New wires on both top and bottom - I can't remember what they were now that it's been 2 weeks (I think it was maybe .016 square on bottom and .018 on top?), still in powerchains to close spaces (with the ones on the bottom going all the way across to the wisdom teeth, instead of just to the first molars as before).

Am having a super annoying problem in which the bristles from my toothbrush keep snagging on the wires/bands on my bottom left molars, and am thinking maybe I need to get the wire trimmed. They're starting to get slightly poky, but as I HAAAAATE calling, I haven't reached my breaking point yet.

I am just coming up on my 6 month brace-versary next week. These past 6 months have definitely flown by, but then I think that I still have 2 years to go, and that just seems like an eternity, so I try not to think about it. I know that that time will fly by - thinking about what I was doing 2 years ago make it seem like a lifetime ago and that time has flown by. My hygienist told me right before getting braced that that time is going to pass by anyway - I come back to those words all the time. It has been quite a journey though. Of course, there have been some adjustments and things to get used to and all that is sometimes annoying, but for the most part, life has regained normalcy, which seemed impossible those first few weeks after being braced. And I am definitely thrilled and excited about all the progress that has been made. It really is the best thing I could have done for myself.

Anyway, photo time. Excuse the staining on the powerchains - ALREADY. Apparently, I ate something I shouldn't have, and I have no idea what the culprit is! :Questions: GRRRRR. I try to avoid the major stain causing stuff until right before my adjustment appointments (mainly just curry/turmeric/mustard - still drink coffee and red wine, because even though it causes staining over time, it's not that bad). But just shows you that it still happens. Oh well.

The gap closure progress. SOOOOO close, but sooooooo far. I think it's at about 2mm now. So probably in the next month or two. Since the rubber bands HURT when I started wearing them again, I thought maybe it would move fast, but I haven't noticed that much movement. grumble, grumble.

Next adjustment in about 2 weeks (4 weeks between appointments).

Yeah I hear ya the 2 yr mark that seems forever away feels like an eternity, especially when your in a period of discomfort/pain from an adjustment. I had one Friday and was upgraded wires top and bottom and got a power chain. I was definitely feeling it. Your progress is awesome though :)

I've had 2 adjustments since my last post. I didn't see a ton of change after the first and I was lazy, so I didn't post an update. The second was today. This is probably the first adjustment after which the discomfort isn't too bad. In fact, I'm sitting here going "this should hurt more, are my teeth even moving?!" There is a lot of tightness, but not so much pain - I can eat solid foods for once! This is welcome, because I ran a half marathon yesterday, and the rest of my body is definitely in pain (I even told my ortho to take it easy on me - maybe he listened to me, HA!). I think maybe it's because I've had a ton of movement in the beginning, and maybe he's being less aggressive now? (Shrug)

At my last adjustment, they put on a tighter/thicker powerchain. That was no joke. I felt soreness as soon as it went on, and it got worse over the next day or so. It is helping progress my gap closures, so it's been worth it.. It's also closed up the tiny little gaps that have been opening up all over (mostly in my upper front teeth) I am SO antsy for the front lateral gap to close - it's been 6 months since my extractions now, and I definitely thought it would be closed by now, but slow and steady wins the race I guess. My premolar gap is pretty much closed now. But it's much less noticeable than before, and I feel much less awkward with it (and really, no one cares!). My bottom left molar gap has been closing up quite a bit (I'd say it's not much bigger than the one in the front), which is surprising because I didn't expect my molars to move for a long time. My bottom right molar has barely budged, though.

Other than that...changed wires on the bottom today (17 square), and I've been back to wearing rubber bands on both sides since last month. Not thrilled, but they seem to be working.

Ortho says he is super happy with my progress, so yay! I am also super thrilled with my progress, but as my teeth have straightened out, I've started nitpicking all the little things that are still off. I know and trust that everything is going to straighten out in the end, so I'm trying to stop staring and analyzing all the time, because I know it will drive me crazy, but I can't help it. Crazy thing is that my teeth were so bad before that I used to think that if one day, if they just looked "ok" I would be happy, but apparently that isn't the case anymore.

Finally getting around to posting an update. It's been 2 weeks since my last adjustment. Same configuration, nothing that interesting happening. Just another wire tie and they told me they made my powerchains tighter to try to move things along a bit.

Ortho commented that my teeth looked great, and he seemed really happy with the way things were going, as am I. I am obviously thrilled. Best thing I could have ever done for myself! Ended up bringing a box of chocolates to thank them all for everything they've done for me this year (I joked that I was trying to bribe them to like me - ortho said I was smart to be nice to the people who have pliers in my mouth, haha) - that went over really well.

I don't really see any super obvious changes since my last adjustment, except for my gaps closing up. I can feel my bite changing all the time. But photos anyway...

*ALMOST* there!

Quick snap of my bottom arch, to document gap closures there. The bottom left is closing up (but a bit crooked), bottom right isn't budging. You can also see that the molars are tipped inwards, which is why I still have so much time left in my treatment (~21 months).

Next adjustment in mid-January. A bit more time in between adjustments than normal (6 weeks instead of 4) because I'm due for a longer appointment...time for progress x-rays, and repositioning brackets. I am NOT looking forward to that, since the one time he repositioned one bracket, it was super uncomfortable.

Whoa, it's been a long while since my last post! I kept meaning to post an update, but hey, life happens.

Still in powerchains on top and bottom - I had them off on the top for a month, and my gap, which had closed up at that point, opened back up real fast. It finally closed up again, as of my appointment last week. There's still a gap at the gumline but the teeth make contact.

Had brackets repositioned at the beginning of the year. Also had brackets put on my upper second molars, which promptly broke off, and now they are banded. Still in rubber bands, in a cross-bite triangle pattern from the inside of my second molar on the bottom to the outer side of the first and second molars on top. This is to fix the tipped in second molar on the bottom.

All my extraction gaps have closed up EXCEPT the one one the bottom right. Ortho finally gave up in trying to close up the space with just braces alone, and sent me to an oral surgeon to get a TAD put in. Took 2 months to get an appointment, but finally had it put in on Monday. It is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. After freaking out about it for 2 months, it turns out that the actual procedure to get it screwed in was not bad at all. Most of the time I was there was to get numb, the actual procedure probably took only 5 minutes. It hurt a bit as the numbness was wearing off and before the ibuprofen kicked in, but after than initial dose of ibuprofen, the discomfort hasn't been bad at all - just some tenderness in the soft tissue when I move my mouth around.

So I hit my one year anniversary back in March. I will hit (hopefully) my halfway point next month. In many ways, it has completely flown by, but at the same time, it has seemed like the longest year of my life. Overall, the discomfort level after adjustments has gotten significantly better. The first three months in braces were by far the roughest. Lately, it has become just a minor annoyance.

Obviously, I have seen significant improvement. Both my dentist and ortho have commented on how remarkable the change has been since they first saw me. My teeth have certainly come a long way.

Anyway, I know you all are here for photos -
