Post Opp Treatment

#1 Post by Nate01 »

Hi,

Well iv just had double jaw surgery to correct a 6mm underbite, they fixed this by moving the lower jaw 4mm back and top 2mm forward, so bish bash bosh all done and am now 12 day after and all was seeming to go well, swelling was going down nicely and I'm fairly happy with my new face, today I had my 2nd appointment at the hospital and my surgeon said my jaw is spamming ( i must still be a lil numb coz I can't overly feel it ) so to counteract this and stop my jaw from setting in the wrong position he has fixed 5 really tight eleastics to my braces, so tight that i can't actually open my mouth as I'm in a lot more pain than I was before, I know it needs to be done and i can already feel my jaws moving but I was just wondering if anyone else had any insight or knowlage to a similar thing happening to them, if so, how long dose it hurt for ? Was it successful for you ? How long did you have to wear them ? And how did you eat/drink/ anything while this was happening ?

Thanks a tonne, Nate

I had even more elastics than you did post-op, and unfortunately it meant I couldn't eat much. I had to load up on Ensures. Try to find some of the more unusual flavors. While they may not be that great tasting, after 8 weeks of the same 4 Ensure flavors 5x a day, I found any variety at all to be welcome. I was eventually able to open enough to wedge in pieces of scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes. Other than that it was pretty much Ensures for all 12 weeks until I got the elastics off. I lost like 15 lbs.
