Canine got chipped because of bracket!

#1 Post by kallekald »

Hey everyone!
I have had braces for 1 year and 1 month now. For the past 2-3 months, my canine has been touching a bracket while biting down. This resulted in that it broke off! Upon research I see he could have used something called bite block to prevent this. I have been to 2 appointments where it still wasn't broken off and he could clearly see it was touching. I didn't worry too much as I didn't think anything would happen, and I trusted him to know what was necessary.

I was at an appointment yesterday and he said "they're not that different" and that left me pretty speechless. I then asked him about if he could somehow make it look like the other one again. He said it was not possible, because there's not much space you could paste it on (by using bonding). Is there anyone who knows anything about if that's true?

I am so, so mad and sad because my canines are something I really liked about my smile. Should I change orthodontist?

It is also touching now and I am worried that it might get even more chipped. Is there anything I can use to make my own bite blocks? I am really scared and sad. Any advice is appreciated.

I just read another thread about a dentist not putting on brackets on back molars. I don't have the molar band on either lower or upper (only starts from second tooth from the back), is this a bad sign?

He can file down the other one to match more. Honesty, this is what my canines look like naturally. One is so much more pointy than the other. Once treatment is almost over he's going to file that one down for me.
Braces for 18 months/4 days.

First, sorry this happened to you. This is a lesson that if you feel something is wrong you have to really communicate with your ortho. We can't assume our ortho can "see" everything when we feel something is wrong. I've complained about all kinds of things during my journey and they've always resolved it quickly. If I assumed they could see all my problems with their eyes and didn't say anything I'd have wires sticking out of my cheeks, broken brackets, elastics that kept flying out of my mouth and more.

That's really unfortunate. :'( As written, it is still touching, and I told him last time as I told my tooth was chipped, but he didn't do anything about it. Anything I can do at home myself? Everytime I call because of a loose bracket or anything else, they always tell me to wait for the next appointment.

It could be worse. I have a chip in #8 (upper central) from hitting a bracket on the bottom before my overbite was corrected. You should see my Lloyd Christmas impersonation.
